It reminds me of an incident in Canada a few years ago, where the gov't came out with a proposal that Muslim women would not have to remove their hijabs to identify themselves at election polling stations. Islamic groups were the first to condemn the plan, and stated they had no problem removing their hijabs for official identification purposes, and worried that moves like this by PC politicians actually do more to stir up hatred of Muslims. Of course, their complaint was a small byline, while the first report of the plan was front page news.
An informed society has a duty to read between the lines.
