Islamophobia (ie. A perceived trend of increasing "Islamophobia" during the 2000s has been attributed by some commentators to the September 11 attacks,[6] while others associate it with the rapidly growing Muslims populations in the Western world, especially in Western Europe, due to both immigration and high fertility rate.[7] In May 2002, the European Monitoring Centre on Racism and Xenophobia (EUMC), a European Union watchdog, released a report entitled "Summary report on Islamophobia in the EU after 11 September 2001", which described an increase in Islamophobia-related incidents in European member states post-9/11.[8] Although the term is widely recognized and used, it has not been without controversy.[9]

It isnt just teakdoor and I think its a good thing, not that I hate Islam I just dont want them preaching their crap in our countrys.

i thought there might be something special that I am not aware of that turns thailand expats, and teakdoor members in particular, into raving mad islamophobes.

Maybe when the alleged vast majority of peaceful, thoughtful, reasonable Muslims find the time to outwardly condemn the violence and hate speech of the radical Muslims it will die down a bit.....so far we have not heard that much from the Islamic world in that regard.....it's always our fault.... The fact that their radical elements kill thousand of completely innocent people around the world on a seemingly weekly basis probably contributes as well. We (Westerners) kick up all kinds of shit if a few of our soldiers whack a civilian here and there..ever when it's an accident...how come there is no howls of outrage from the Muslim world.

My first hint came on my first day in Saudi in 1986, when a pick-up truck drove by me with the fat driver and two baby camels riding in the air conditioned cab, and the two wives and five kids riding in the open bed of the truck under a 114 degree blazing sun.

I think it's a shame that when we do get the odd Moslem member, like macha or mad (or is it crazy?) dog, all the usual suspects jump on their case. I think their perspectives are interesting, and add to the mix- just like I do any TD member who is not a white, male Thailand expat or holidaymaker.

a few reasons....

One, when there is minimal moderation on any forum, the truth tends to come out. Most people hate muslims.

Second, western people usually have to fly to get to Thailand, they are reminded every time they fly of the pain in the ass muslims have caused them.

^Also agree. International travel has now turned from a pain in the ass into pure torture. I dread it every time I have to endure a flight. Fortunately, I no longer have to fly very often, unlike in previous years.

These are not honorable or learned men but instead have constructed their entire lives around procurment of sex. Not really the types that are into self enlightenment or thoughtful pondering. Whore mongers are usually not ones to be engaging in intellectual pursuits .

To make sweeping generalizations about TD members simply displays Ripley's ignorance. I doubt she has ever met a TD member in person. There are any number of highly educated, well-employed, happily married TD members; from her posts, I very much doubt she is one of them.

Look at the horrid reception the family got who wanted to make a centre near 9-11.

When you can separate the political agenda of fanatics from the religion of millions of peaceful folk, then you have a chance of making an argument I can agree with.

It's not bigotry.....it just waking up to reality. Young people are generally idealistic, but as they get older idealism fades when they acquire experience of the real world.
History has been littered with peacemakers, but we always get around to killing each other again...over one cause or another. Before someone says "it does not always have to be like that"......I know, but that's how it is..sorry. Besides; peace hurts business, and that ain't right..

So with 10 million divided into groups of say 20, they could carry out 500,000 missions. If each mission killed 3,000 (in round numbers similar to 9/11) they would wipe out 150 million. There goes half of America using only 1% If they could radicalize another 1% there goes the other half of America. Of course this could never actually happen, because one more 9/11 and the entire middle east would be turned into a parking lot in 48 hours. Diplomacy and foreign aid would follow for the greatly decreased population.. America likes to be helpful to those in need...
