Was Labour living beyond its means ?

apparently the new government claims it was,

BBC News - Labour 'left £3.3bn black hole in defence budget'

Labour 'left £3.3bn black hole in defence budget'

Labour ministers wrote a £3.3bn cheque that could not be cashed in their last year in government, the defence secretary has said.

Writing in the Times, Dr Liam Fox said the Ministry of Defence had been "living beyond its means for too long".

Labour "incompetence" had contributed to a £38bn black hole over the next 10 years in equipment programmes, he said.

Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has said UK planned defence cuts are a "worry" to the US.

In response, Foreign Secretary William Hague insisted the UK would remain a military power of the first rank.`

Sadly, the UK electorate are either too stupid or have poor memories and will vote those stupid Labour pricks in again in about 9 years time. They always fuck the economy up. Every fucking time.

yes, so do the Tories. No doubt the Libs would as well

essentially it all depends on factors outside their control, so they all just fudge it, claiming how good they are when things are going well, and how the world is making the problems when nothing goes right

The problem is not enough money coming in, too much going out

so, scrap the armed forces, scrap all the weapons budgets, esp the nuclear nonsense, and have a tape recording that says "come on in, we surrender" and let someone else fuk up the economy
    I have reported your post

You have to spend money on Wales as it is the Welsh who provide most of the best teachers that you have in England. Granted, their task is a thankless one, the moreso because most of them have been brought up to believe that it is impossible to "educate pork". Nevertheless, they try, and deserve our praise for what is, essentially, an errand of mercy.

Wrong ! Gordon Brown was responsible for the deregulation. Thatcher had nothing at all to do with our present mess. The UK was in a healthy financial situation when John Major was PM. Our country has gone down the pan since it embraced New Labour. If we are dull enough to do this, we deserve everything we get. That's why I'm buggering off to Thailand in a few years.

The Chancellor has just left Downing Street and I suspect that this is going to be a very interesting day. The new leader of the Labour Party has made a statement but all other Labour people are conspicuous by their absence. They should be bloody well ashamed of themselves for what they have done.

Some fools will blame the present government for the mess we are in. My hometown provided the first Labour MP and I am proud of the achievement of real Labour governments. The last lot had abandoned any contact with socialism and were in it for themselves alone. They spent "the family silver". Harold was right.
