I tried 'diaw' out here a long time back, but got blasted by PoolCleaner

Good heavens. that doesn't sound like our dearly departed Poolcleaner.
He was such a nice young man.

I'm normally pretty tough & bounce the trolls as & when needed, sometimes, as you say, putting them on ignore. The problem at 'the teaching site' was that the trolls changed names faster than I could use ignore. I took a look one day & when I saw an ignore list of some 15 names, I realised that the trolls had won over the moderators. It had become absolutely ridiculous & so I decided to move on.

My mistake was in trying to say goodbye in a gentlemanly way by posting a goodbye message. I did have a few good friends on that board & felt it was better to be upfront & say goodbye rather than slink off. In retrospect, it seems that was the wrong thing to do.

I have never really found any forum - teaching, chat, physics etc - that is really able to balance freedom, but control the trolls. Some knock out the trolls with an iron fist, but this kills all banter. Not sure if the internet will ever just become an open chat medium... too many lurking wierdos...

I personally find TeakDoor a great forum.

There are one or two on here I dislike but usually after talking about the reasons as to why we both dislike each other the problem gets sorted and I enjoy good banter with them.

But some are not mature enough to conduct themselves that way, thats what it is all about. They want to fustrate you, annoy you and make you leave. Well I'm not so sure about making you leave beause it isn't any fun anymore to the troll so they select another victim.

But you can become the victim if you choose to be dont choose to be the victim, dont let it get on top of you. Fifteen nicknames in one day is pretty tough but I'm sure thats nothing you cant handle.

And as for the internet and the future of trolls and moderation I dont think a balance has been actually found where every member is happy after all I think that would be pretty boring.

Anyway, so yeah...

Thanks IM... the 15 ignores had actually built up over a few months, but there was most definitely a rash of them over the last 3 weeks... Things come & go, I guess, & the trolls move their dose from forum to forum... Psychology of the inner vacuum of a troll's cranial cavity...

A few nasty comments I can handle but it's the fact trolls carry this little hate fest on and on and on until the whole forum gets tired of it.

I have never had a reason to dislike Smeg but the amount of threads he posts addressing the members he constantly trolls starts to bore me and other members I'm sure.

That ignore function works wonders, dosen't it?

I've never had an internet stalker or troll, it makes me feel quite left out sometimes

....of course if I did have one I'd probaly have to hunt them down and burn their house to the ground or something, so it's probaly for the best

you do realise, don't you, CMN, that IQ tests measure merely how good you are at doing IQ tests, there is no real correlation between your IQ and real intelligence (whatever that is)

that is why you can have the common sense of a badger and a high IQ

How did his IQ get onto the net? It's not like it crops up in conversation much.
My conclusion is that at some time he must have posted his own IQ.
The only reasons I can see to post your own IQ, especially if it is considered high, are mostly dubious.

I've worked with many intelligent, highly educated people in my time (I left school at sixteen), and a good rule of thumb is that common sense is inversely proportional to intelligence.
Common sense ain't so common.

SB, it was posted in reply to a thread asking folks what their IQ's were. When I suggested the score I did... the plot went ballistic... what was I supposed to have done, lied? Perhaps, in hindsight, that would have been better. Folks love to peg someone for something... hell, who cares what someone's IQ really is? I think it's daft for it to carry on so long... It's something that the professional trolls like to use... crazy stuff...

Since nobody was asking you dirrectly you didn't have to answer. Yes, you could have lied and I bet you wish you did. Or you could have read the post without a reply. If someone asks me if I have a big cock I'll have four choices, say yes, say no, say nothing, or pull that puppy out and fling it round the room.
