    mathematician required

seeking old guy with thick glasses, grey hair raised on the sides, hairy ears and nose to match.

If anyone has the ability....how do you figure this out ??

If there are 8,145,060 possible combinations of 6 numbers from 45 numbers (take this as a given, as some smart twat has already worked it out, or a puter did it for him)... for a prize pool of $20 million

What is the odds of 1 person winning ...expressed as '1 in ???? chance' etc and also as a percentage ?

If there is another game of chance where the odds of winning are 1 in 200,000 for a prize pool of $3 million......how is this game compared in odds of winning against the first one ?? ......how does this change if the prize pool was $4 million etc.

If you don't tell me how much does a ticket cost for each lottery it's quite difficult to compare them.

so more chance of winning, but you'll be winning a smaller pool of money.

Then of course, what happens if multiple winners have to share the winnings?

was not really after it in a cost comparison, just the winning chance if given that you have bought one ticket in each at the same value say.

Not difficult to work out. Each ball is a separate probability event.

The first ball comes out you have 6 chances in 45 of success. If you pass then there are only 5 numbers remaining so the second event probability is 5 chances in 44 etc.. To win the lottery all events have to occur with cumulative probability so the calculation is

    6/45 * 5/44 * 4/43 * 3/42 * 2/41 * 1/40

    = 0.0000001227738039989883

    or 0.00001227738039989883 %

The odds of winning the lottery are 1/x

    = 1 in 8,145,060

The commutative law of mathematics then gives that a general formula for calculating the odds of winning any lottery jackpot of n balls from m balls can be expressed using factorials as

    m!/(((m-n)!).(n!))

    in this case (OzLotto)

    45!/(45-6)!.6!

    1.19622221e56/(2.039788208e46.720)

    = 8,145,060

    or in the UK Camelot

    49!/(49-6)!.6!

    = 13,983,816

You already knew the winning chance , that is the one combination you play with to the 8,145,060 possible combinations.
So your question made sense only if you wanted to compare the cost of a ticket to the winner prize , or compare such ratio with that of the other lotteries you named.
But I guess nothing of what you write ever makes sense at all so just screw it

I'm quite sure the odds don't change in regard to the prize pool or the cost of the ticket.
In your example the odds are 8,145,060 to one and that's it.
