I think The Nation is talking bollocks.
Just spent a couple of days with friends up Chok Chai Farm (Khoa Yai) way, and the white marks where they spray after an accident were many.
I counted at least 12 white marks in the space of 15kms.
I also encounterd about 5 different (wrote off) motors being towed away.
What a crazy time of year eh?
    Happy motoring.

Bangkok post the same. Probably using government statistics same as Nation.

"The number of deaths from road accidents during the Songkran holidays continues to climb as another 45 died and 370 were injured on the fifth day of celebrations.

A total of 257 people died and 3,104 people were injured from 2,863 road accidents during the holiday travels from April 12 to 16, Anucha Mokkhaves, director general of the Department of Natural Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, said on Saturday.

Nakho Ratchasima had the largest number of deaths, at 17, followed by Chiang Rai and Ubon Ratchathani with 11 each and Pitsanulok (9).
Nakhon Si Thammarat had the highest number of road accidents, at 116, and the injured people, at 131.

Drunk driving and speeding were major causes of the accidents."

Songkran road toll rises to 257
"Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect,"

Where did the original 'near 800' deaths come from then....cannot even provide a low life link to a news item to confirm it.

    I agree with your there.
348 accidents on Friday? Not on your nelly!
I reckon you could double/triple those doctored figures.
    Agree/ disagree?
I have no stats to back myself up, but I'm sure it's WAY higher than the national rags and TV say.

The 21 people killed in BKK riots should be added as if the roads were open there would probably be near the same amount of road deaths

    Floored death forecast

I wouldn't be so extreme as to go for the higher figure, I'll 'floor' my forecast to a believable 397 deaths.
