I know there are some Thai people who go around snatching dogs in various villages.

I'll let them know where you live RC.

    Don't mention it.

Best bet is to give the dog away so it isn't your problem anymore, if not then you really got to muzzle it.

Hmm, might try and find a muzzle. The shop really does'nt suffer as the dog knows most people in the village. Rigger had it pretty close, its not some rabid snarling dog, usually just very playfull, like I said in the opening post, I've never even seen him snarl at anyone, our nephew mistreats him by grabbing his balls and squeezing, this worries me just in case the dog turns, but he's reaaly protective.
I have more than the average number of arm and legs

True. I've got a good friend who lives near by. But I never go see him because he's got a big, 50 kg doberman/rotweiller (sp?) mix that likes to bite people. He doesn't bite hard. But I always get the feeling that I'm not welcome because of the dog. They always tell me, "Oh, he bites less and less each time he sees you."

If it was a shop, I'd never go, either. So better you do something about the dog. How about a muzzle during the day and let them know that you take it off at night? I think that's a good compromise.

Dude!! That sucks in a major way! I have a golden and I would be heartbroken if someone stole him. The problem with those dogs is that they are so damn friendly to anyone, they are easy pickin's. And they can fetch a fair bit of money, too. Sorry to hear that yours got stolen.

Are you saying someone broke into your land or house and stole your dog? or are you saying that you are an irresponsible dog owner who don't know where the fok his dog is most of the time? Nice dog on the street I would nick it, not a lab though, I mean a proper dog, nearly got this nice German Shepard down at Hat Sai Torng one time, fed the thing and got him in the back of the pick up, he jumped out and decided to go home

You do know that in some parts of Thailand there are people who eat dogs, right ? I don't think there are many but there are some.

I know one temple where the monk accepted a truck load of dogs onto the temple ground because the police caught some Thai guy snagging the dogs for a family barbecue.

Its mainly around the Thai/cambodian boarder area, although sometime you get migrent workers cooking one up, never came across it really

Building a simple kennel is easy and cheap (I built one just a few months ago). If you have a spare building on the premises you can make the kennel an extension of this, so the dog will be able to go inside if he wants to. Daytime he has to stay in the kennel, night time you let him out. Obviously the kennel needs to be rather big so he has some space to move around.

I think RC said the dog is kinda the Alpha male of the area ... he won't be for long if he's in a kennel or muzzled.

Our dogs are home most of the time but living in outback Isaan is not really the same as living in pattayah and belive it is cruel to keep a big dog couped up. Our dogs get to have a run during the day. Gates open but never really go far but are locked in the yard at night time
The dog was last seen at the sunday market about 300m down the road some locals have said there was a women feeding the dog at the market I guess she took him home with her as a pet or to sell. will wait and see if they can point out who it was feeding the dog this sunday and try and get honda back.

I'm with you on that. Most dogs don't stray much, our other one's never leave the farm, the big one rearly does since we've cut his balls off

There are a couple of gay "Dogs" I know that would probably be turned on by the sight of a caged and muzzled dog.

Well, just like you said, you have a problem if the dog bites kids. The dog's stepped over the line and you need to solve it somehow. Kennel and muzzle are the reasonable choices unless you want to shoot him or give him away.

Leaving him running around means he will most likely cause trouble again - how serious is hard to say. You may not be scared of it, but as an owner you have a responsibility towards other people who move around your premises, and apart from that you need to take care of your business.

What is more important, your customers' safety (real as well as perceived) or the dog's right to run around?

A bitch at our school had seven puppies, soon enough the kids were picking them out and later taking them home. There is one left though, half grown by now. You guessed it, a black female.

I got two dogs living in my house. I'd like to put them out, you know, outdoor dogs, as a dog should be. Too bad they won't have it, never listen to a word I say. All they want from me is food. All I want from them is to get the fuck out.

Oh well an update. We have sort of come up with a solution. After talking to the vet today we are going to cut his teeth and give him some eostrogen (sp) hormone shots, which might make him into a katoy dog but at least he'll still be free to run around and stuff

Finnished now. Not bad, 4 teeth cut, hormone injection and cos he was out anyway I gave him some worming/parasite shots all done at the house. 350 Bhat all together but had to do the anestetic injections myself and used my own parasite medicen. Still hope it does the trick. Probably do the rest of them as well. Oh we weighed him for the parasite stuff 36 kg so he's a bit of lump.

Not Roittie/alsation size but still quite big we think he's part doberman/black lab/thai mix
