They have been saying this for a quite a few years now but so far so good. One thing is for sure though....when it blows , stand well back. In fact, way way back as in , the other side of the planet.
There has been a lot of activity lately, although what that signifies is anybody's guess. Could just be letting off pressure. If not, well, get ready for another mini-Ice Age, global warming problem solved!
Makes me want to shriek!

Hundreds of Quakes Are Rattling Yellowstone
By KIRK JOHNSON
Published: January 31, 2010
DENVER — In the last two weeks, more than 100 mostly tiny earthquakes a day, on average, have rattled a remote area of Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming, putting scientists who monitor the park’s strange and volatile geology on alert.
Researchers say that for now, the earthquake cluster, or swarm — the second-largest ever recorded in the park — is more a cause for curiosity than alarm. The quake zone, about 10 miles northwest of the Old Faithful geyser, has shown little indication, they said, of building toward a larger event, like a volcanic eruption of the type that last ravaged the Yellowstone region tens of thousands of years ago.
The area is far from any road or community, and the park is relatively empty in winter. Swarms of small quakes, including a significant swarm last year, are relatively common.
But at a time when the disastrous earthquake in Haiti on Jan. 12 has refocused global attention on the earth’s immense store of tectonic energy, scientists say that the Yellowstone swarm, if only because of its volume, bears close observation: as of Sunday, there had been 1,608 quakes since Jan. 17.
Yes if that goes off in a big way, and it is a big if, it will make man's efforts at planetary destruction seem like a gnat's fart on a wind day.
Never mind the other side of the planet, try the southern hemisphere.
REPENT NOW THE END IS NIGH.
But, supposing it does erupt, will the World Cup still go ahead?
Anyway, bed time. See you all tomorrow if we're all still here.
^, the SHTF.
I'm in Antigua and can see Montserrat from here, she is puffing away like an old steam train. be a nice quick tsunami if it blew but better she lets off steam and not build up pressure. If Yellowstone blows we are all foked.
Could be worse, could be raining..!
Time to sell your house and donate the money to the local priest.
We're all going to die....we're all going to die!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yellowstone has peaks and troughs of activity, although if I recall it is overdue by several thousand years.
I think activity levels would need to go up a lot more before dire warnings are released. I know of reports that said the magma chamber underneath it was filling, but it could still be hundreds if not thousands of years before the next big one.
However, I'm just off to 7-11 to stock up....![]()

They mistake pure illusion for reality, license for freedom, treason for patriotism, vengeance for justice."-Simón Bolívar

Nothing new under the Sun. It's all happened before and will do so again. Last time they reckon was 70,000 years ago when Mount Toba exploded precipitating a near extinction event for the then world's population. Geneticists tracing man's development reckon we are all descended from a common gene pool comprising between 1,000 and 10,000 folk that survived the catastrophe.
Not sure if their research also includes the Welsh or homosexuals.
That was Tasmania and it was between 10 and 50 people, they then moved to the mainland and have been breeding ever since, 20 million of the buggers now so I'm led to believe.Originally Posted by thegent

We can only hope that Florida isn't destroyed when it explodes, don't really matter too much about the rest of America but it would be a shame to lose the EPCOT center.
^If it blows - everyone is royally fucked! As gent elequently put it - mass extinction level event.
