I need to buy a suit for a new job I start next week and was considering a tailor made one. I've never used them before and was just wondering if it's worth it for the money and is the quality good? The suits I were looking at in 'Central' this afternoon cost around 14k by Dapper and the similar. I don't want to go over board so is it worth going for a tailor made?

I would never buy a suit from a taylor in Bangkok absolute shite it will fall apart in weeks most of them are glued together rather than machined. Get yourself to a Marks & Spencer store for your suit.

^ Not true. I have purchased a couple of suits for 6000 baht and that included 3 different dress shirts from a tailor in Bangkok. He has been in business about 25 years and I know many farangs that have bought suits from him and every one is an extremely satisfied customer. They have been the best suits I have ever owned and have held up well and were done in two days.

Every stitch is solid. I have a friend that makes tailor made suits in Chicago and he was impresses beyond belief. I know suits and this guy is a proper tailor.

my sister asked me to take her somewhere to get some suits tailor made , she being a solicitor its everyday wear for her , and I took her to the tailor down from the emporium toward soi 22.

she was happy enough with them she ordered more a year later and had them mailed to her

I've had a couple of suits from Emporium Tailors, the one I think Baldricks talking about, and they've both been excellent.

They made me the 1st one for free because I've sent so many customers to them over the years. So I'll keep plugging them.

Got a couple of suits made in Bangkok and one in Pattaya about 5 years ago and I must say they were excellant. Shirt were a differant matter, the ones made in Bangkok were excellant but the others from Pattaya were rubbish.

i am a Boss man in europe and belive firmly in buying the good stuff.

The tailor made stuff in thailand is shit. Compare the size of the stiches and the lines of the stitching and you see its shit. Further the material the use in the sleeves and the neck is usually also crap. Size off stiches,stiching around the holes for the buttoms, quality off inlays, size and type off tread, all these details that you expect to be top noch are rubbish.
Not to mention the quality of the fabrics use for shirts and suits. Cheap shit mostly
The craftsmanship is fare beyond pari and the only shirts ,shortsleeved, I bought in thailand that pleases me is the silk shirt from Jim thomson, the silk legend. very good silk but 6000 bath.
Even if you go to the museums and look at royal dresses on display, the fabrics are beautiful but the stiches etc is not acceptable.
Youre fare better off buying in the shopping malls in my opinion.

The shops all along Sukhumvit in Bangkok are money laundering operations, not tailor shops as they appear to be. One or two factories make all their suits should you be dragged into one by their touts and forced to purchase.

There are a few exceptions regarding Indian tailors, but you'll need word of mouth recommendations, and as I only wear off the peg Armani or Boss, I can't help you there.

Raja's on Sukhumvit Soi 4 is favored by the staffs at some of the large embassies. They have a very fine reputation.

Depends what kind of job it is.

The majority of the time my job will be office based. However, from time to time I will have to interveiw people in the Engineering industry and Biotechnology field (food related)

I can find a suit to fit and I've seen styles that I like. I wondered if for the money I could find better tailor made.

So, in summary...

There are a handful of good and one or two top notch tailors in Bangkok, but they will all be dissed by those who have more money than sense because of a need to justify themselves.

I've used the tailor just up from the Black Swan on Sukhumvit. Expensive, but superb quality, and all done in-house. Cannae remember the name though.

Come on. There are many good tailors in BKK. But you have to pick good fabrics and go for a number of fittings. But keep on keeping on Dave.

Yep, I think it all comes down to how much you spend on fabric and picking a good tailor.

If your prepared to spend 14,000 on a Dapper then I would recommend sticking in a couple more grand and get one tailored at a place recomended by someone you trust.

I used to buy Prada suits in the U.k upwards of 800 pounds which were great suits but the fits were not as good as a tailored suit here that costs 16,000 - 21,000bt. And when your spending just a little more the quality of stitching and materials goes up.

Also the quality of other Dapper products (I've never looked at the suits) has gone down over the last few years.
