At least they are trying to do something about those, finally!
Change is coming even tho it may be a bit slow, but it's changing....and bkk is a good starting point.

They've been talking about the dam protection for the city since before the coup...so I wouldn't expect anything anytime soon.
And if we get another change in government, as is predicted, you know it'll be pushed to the bottom of the list again, while they squabble over power, position and pardons...
"Slavery is the daughter of darkness; an ignorant people is the blind instrument of its own destruction; ambition and intrigue take advantage of the credulity and inexperience of men who have no political, economic or civil knowledge. They mistake pure illusion for reality, license for freedom, treason for patriotism, vengeance for justice."-Simón Bolívar
are you planning to pack your bags then SD ? (polite question)
12Call is not saying that everything in Thailand is qualitatively good . . . he is simply saying that not EVERYTHING is bad.
Fair enough, in my opinion, he is right
One Thai made Toyota Corona 323,000 Kilometers, Oil changes, tire changes, and a new radiator and water pump. One 6 year old Altis 350, 000 k converted to LPG, a brake job is all it ever took and we got 400,000 baht for a trade in on that car when we moved up yesterday to a Camry. Not bad I dont think.
Testament to Toyota rather than Thailand IMO.Originally Posted by aging one
BMW cannot get the proper quality materials to produce parts here in Thailand and so have to import them and thus are not eligible for tax breaks as less than 60% of their parts are manufactured locally. Hence the high prices of locally assembled BMW models such as the 318i and the 730iL.
Toyota and Honda make a lot of their low end models here but nothing that requires better quality than what Thailand is able to offer otherwise they would be cost prohibitive.

It's not a possibility...TOT has the monopoly on my street...I've asked many times.
Can you provide some reference for these statements? My understanding was that almost all of Toyota and Honda production for export into Asia (including Australia) is done in Thailand, including the top end Camarys and Accords. Have no idea about BMW's production as I think they only make a few thousand cars each year in Thailand so I could see them not being able to buy many locally produced parts.
I do know that something like 50% of the computer hard drives in the world are made in Thailand (open your computer and look) as well a very large portion of the integrated circuit boards. Both of these use parts made in China and are assembled here because of QC problems in China.
I remember living in China 6 years ago and when we bought an imported DVD player (Panasonic) it turned out to have been made in Thailand. It still works today.
I think people’s perception of what kind of quality can be done in Thailand is seriously skewed by the environment they live in. If all they see is Somchai the builder remodeling shop houses, they think that is what all construction is like in Thailand, which couldn't be further from the truth.
TH
Pobly just like most places, they keep and produce shit for local use and do a lot better job on export.
That can be the only thing I can see as I know stuff you buy here is junk.
But that OTTO oven I bought is first class and it is made here.
Surprised the shit outta me that it worked at all, I bought a hot plate (electric) to use in my smoker, guaranteed for 1 year, blew up in less than 15 minutes, took it back and as I have done some business in the shop, she gave me another, less than an hour later I was back with it, so told her to fuck it, bought a gas hotplate, tank and regulator.
Same thing thing when I bought a #12 sausage grinder, the connection between the motor and grinder was a real joke, so I went back and told the guy about it, a friend had taken me in there and he is a HISO around town, so the dude asks me what could be done to fix it, I told him and he gave me the parts it would take, I did the labor and welding myself, and now it is correct.
And I do know Thai, I worked crews of them out in the world, and they do have a problem with doing class work, it is possible, but you have to see that it is done or they will fuck you to death.
The Thai motto is "Just good enough to get by" Close enough is good enough.
Stop buying the cheapest shit in the shop then you tight ass.
