    The Thai Myth Buster Thread

Have you heard anything in Thailand that you wonder is it true or not?

If so, then this is the thread for you. Post what you have heard and then we can see if its a myth or a truth by what other posters have to say!!

A couple that I have heard recently -

    1) A farang can't collect the winning if he has a winning Thai lottery ticket.

Is this true or is it a Thai girl ensuring that she will have to go and claim the 12 million baht?

    True or false?

    2) A Thai women that marries a farang can't buy property in her name if she assumes her husband's last name.

    True or False?

Please add anything to this thread that you have heard that has left you scratching your head thinking - this must be a myth.

Something in number 2 I think. A mate was gonna change his wifes id card and then didn't I think for a reason similar.

    2) False.

Husband just has to sign a disclaimer at the land office, that the money used to purchase the land (and hence the land) is not matrimonial property.

Do some Thai villages create large wooden or otherwise sculptures of a dick and balls in order to protect the village or house from evil sex ghosts?

Meat on bones might be nice here though. The version I heard of this situation came from a Thai.

A policeman told me that farangs were not allowed to drive in Thailand because they don't know where the roads go.

If you go to a temple and bend right over so that your looking back through your legs and your head is upside down you can see ghosts. True or false?

I have actually attempted to do it but I got shouted at by the wife for being an idiot because it was her grandads funeral so wasn't able to get a good look. Does anyone live near a temple and they could just pop down and give it a go?

The myth probably arose because some land offices upcountry have not heard of the law or don't want to know.

Yeah, why is that? Even Uni girls seem to think we are all rich. When I give them the facts, amongst other things, they seem shocked...

I've heard many Thai's say Japan is the world centre for technology, inventor of all things technological

When I explain to them that most technological things (such as the internet, computers etc) were invented by Europeans or Americans they seem surprised.

I also regale them with tales of my youth, when everything cheap and shit was made in Japan. Now of course it is China. They are shocked once more.

They mistake pure illusion for reality, license for freedom, treason for patriotism, vengeance for justice."-Simón Bolívar

False. They can drive but must stop and get directions from a local villager to ensure they have no hope of ever finding where they want to go.
