Good luck, mobs! I moved back to the States about five months ago. It's doable. I miss things/people/etc. but the reasons I had for coming back were far more pressing than any reason I could think of to stay.

However, I don't envy you those New England winters. I lived through two of those and that was all I could take.

I was sitting with my youngest daughter tonight and asked her whether she wanted to live in Bangkok or Pattaya as now I am mostly working there (Bangkok) and am away from home 4 nights a week.

To my surprise she said Australia and she, like the rest of my family (particularly my wife) loved it there for the month long holiday.

Her main fear (my wife) was purchasing traditional Thai cooking ingrediants and she was pleasantly surprised that everything was there and sometimes cheaper in Sydney.

Having a good solid supporting family in Oz certainly will make things easier for me and when I decide to return full time with the family.

^^^ Ohh yeah Ghandi, only a real lowlife who never could make it on his own would live with his parents, right?

What if you have a great relationship with your family, a house big enough for plenty of privacy and would like to help the people who raised you from birth by paying some bills rather than giving your money to a landlord you don't even know?

Thanks. I guess my reason for going back could be considered pressing. There is no way for me to make a stable living here and enough money to survive comfortably and at the same time save enough for a future.

Besides I still have the travel bug and no kids yet!

I hear you. I was in pretty much the same situation. I was working in LOS but it wasn't anything that I would call stable or enjoyable. I survived comfortably but there was very little chance of me saving for a future. Time to retrain, go to grad school, and do something else. Also, four years was longer than I'd really planned to spend in Thailand anyhow and it felt like time for a change. The world's a big place and I'm not yet encumbered/blessed with a wife and/or children.

Ooooh, there is at least one thread on that. Who was the guy with the love that went back; think they had twins. He's got a honker thread on his wife in the wild west, or England. Whatever. Think she was trouncing around in the snow in her flipflops. If your fair lady speaks English, has some friends and her cooking ingredients, she should adjust in time. Exciting at first, but then you go to work and...
As for the jerky comments here, mobs, you know how to deal with those. Just call me and I'll be there to street clean.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder.

Nature itself has a manner of establishing a feeling, a feeling so far down in the most sacred depositories of your heart and soul that it is indissoluble.

It creates an unmistakable attachment to that country to which you owe you're birth and infant nurture.

That's why real men would give their lives for their country.

    From Memory:-

Then God said, "I will send you into Hell"

The Man replied, "Thou Canst not."

And God asked of the man:- "Why cannot I send you into Hell, for what reason?"

"Because I left my home for Hell, and in Hell I am living" replied the man.

There was silence in the House of The Lord.

    But God spoke:-

"Then I will send you into Heaven"

"You cannot do that" the man cried out.

    God said:-

"Why may I not send you into Heaven?"

"Because in this place I have never been able to imagine Heaven" replied the man.

The House of Judgement was truly silent.

From Memory and a very old memory.

It may not be anything like word perfect, in fact it's probably a long way off.

But the thesis is somewhat accurate.

    Oscar Wilde wrote it.
All the women take their blouses off
And the men all dance on the polka dots
    It's closing time !

I do miss real beer, yes.
Here it is the brewery just down the road. Can go in and fill up 6 liter growlers off their taps for $6 a piece, that's about 200 baht.

My local brewery. It's changes a bit since I was there, but the banana bread beer looks interesting.

I know this German doctor who has been teaching scuba diving here for years.

Last year he told me he can't stand Thailand anymore as he can't get decent sausages and everythings shite, anyway he told me he's fooking off back to Nazi land.

Seen him the other night, he's now back in Thailand after only 6 months away.

Recon's things ain't that bad here after all.

I figure that things are the same all over the world and if you got no other interest except drinking piss and shagging trollups your lifes fooked where ever you are.

Some dudes need to get themselves an interest, step back a tad and have a real good look at what Thailand can offer them if they can only appreciate one needs to keep busy and motivated.

Not going to be any different at home if you let yourself turn into a fat pissed up fooking pleb who's bored out of his fooking mind.

The stories we hear about punters uping up stumps and doing a runner home are equally matched by punters who have happily and succesfully intergrated into a rewarding life style in Thailand and say they will never leave.

I say, whatever floats your boat boys.
