of course different means strange.

it can also mean other things, but i used to play golf with 2 Americans and i found their behaviour very strange, they used to hooop and hahh and jump into each others chests arms outstretched.

they'd be banned from any British golf course.

most odd they were.

I disagree.

But I do understand that the term "strange" is used by some in the sense that you describe it above.
