The only time I have really feared for my life and during the riots about 7 years ago and I caught scabbies from an Indonesian woman.
Not a happy hunting ground for me and most of Jakarta is a shithole!
Having said that I would like to visit other parts of Indonesia particularly after seeing KW's picture threads.

Jakarta is only bearable in very short doses.
Large Asian cities, for the most part, are human anthills, devoid of any character.
European cities shit 'em.
I think you'll find Desi is a female name. I think she is a precocious bigot. well, at least jealous of the higher wages the expats might commend, in some areas.Originally Posted by November Rain

The current rising wave/power of fundamentalists muslims in ALL of indonesia are causing problems.
a) Violence, such as the example of the violent muslim group that bashed a nonviolent muslim group at the national monumnent last year, because they were "bad muslims" protesting for peace.
B) New repressive Laws such as the recenet pornography law, that bans anything that might arouse a man's lust, including bikinis and tradtional dances.
c) political parties, all the political parties are trying to appeal to the muslim vote, membership of their parties is changing to reflect this, the government works that they propose, even the banking system is trying to get in on the act.
Then I might be more inclined to agree with you...
She's traveled plenty of different places, including getting degrees overseas and being a member of the presidential press corps.....

Quite often I come up against word constructions that you use, that are just not quite native language speaker level. Educated, certainly, but not quite "spot on".
I don't think I have ever heard the expression "A moot conclusion". A "moot point" now is a well know phrase.
Come clean - where you from RS?
Shouldn't this be in the Indonesian section?
Yes, but the OP is a twat.Originally Posted by slimboyfat

I've known a few expats who have moved to Bangkok after being based in Jakarta - and prefer Jakarta. These people make good money, and generally say the standard of living is better but it costs much less than BKK..
to be honest, I'm not certain I would agree with either comment there mate, perhaps its changed slightly since, I do think BKK has improved in many ways in the last 10 years, but JKT has stagnated slightly.Originally Posted by Bones
