actually, as much as you'd like to think it, the demise of the germans werent much to do with the yanks, rather hitlers stupidity on attacking the russians, thereby creating two fronts, and over stretching his supply lines and subjecting the yermans to a russian winter.

The pacific theatre, however, is a whole different story, the yanks did save the day there, at least for us Aussies, and most of south east asia.

Most of you folks seem to forget I was a good size lad when it quit and in a couple more years I would have been in uniform so it is not just a history thing to me but is a memory.

I think a few people should have actualy read the OP before posting.

So, as long as a conversation between an American and a foreigner runs along a specific topic such as business or the American's chosen field of expertise, everything seems fine. Problems start when a European wants to have a broader discussion on international culture or current world events ( the ones that do not cover America's involvement in some war). Once a discussion like that starts, an American tunes out. He gives his conversation partner a blank look and starts feeling uncomfortable.

Hollywood, too , plays a role by putting America in the center of the world with other countries somehow being "run-away provinces" of America, who one day will want to join the Union and become another state of the US.

America is a big country, and varied as the people in it. However, I think there are many Americans who are not well travelled, and live in their own bubble. Many still think that Canada is just a place where people live in igloos, and eat maple syrup. Of course, Americans also no shit about world geography. Some think it is the middle of the universe so no need to know about other countries. I wouldn't say dumb, I'd say more arrogant.
