    The Cops are out!!

    A Warning to all:

A friend of mine left Soi Nana [at] 10.30Hrs last night and turned on to the expressway. Just after the tollgate there were 6 cops with Breath Testers waiting to pounce, he was slightly over and it cost him 2000B. Moral of the story "if you can afford to drink on Sukhumvit, you can AFFORD A TAXI" !!!

    Good.

It's just a shame they don't do this on a more consistent basis. If they did then we wouldn't have this silly ban on selling alcohol over Songkran!

Yeah - but it would be interesting to know what happened to the 2K baht. Were they really "enforcing the law" or just topping up their coffee fund?

They are not, 2K in the pocket is not the law. A visit to Lumpini Station is the law!!

Even if they do pocket the money, which is fine by me as they get paid a pittance and it's necessary to feed the family.

At least it may deter a few from getting pished and driving home. This place has shocking enough driving abilities without alcohol, pished = injury/death to driver or others!

I'm up for giving the BIB a decent salary to stop the pocketing and tea money and allowing them to enforce laws.

    We can all dream!

But they pocket the cash and then allow the driver to carry on his way.

yes n no, often its too buy the latest BMW aint it?

the low ranking plods have to hand over a % of their dosh each day/month to the higher ups, how do you think the station chiefs etc make all their money? they certainly dont tap tourists on the street..

If I could change just one thing in Thailand, I think it would be this.

.....although the sad part of me says that paying them well would not stop the corrupt actions......

If anything, I think the mentality of a lot of people is "If I get caught, at least its only a couple of grand."

Most farangs I know drink and drive, lost one down the road the other day, leaves the bar 1800 and didn't even make the first corner and they found him 0600 the next morning with a broken neck, most probably run of the road as that area is bad for people over taking on the corners

We have some dead flowers hanging off the rear view mirror and some bits of string on our wrists so we''ll never have an accident, drunk or sober.

Ahh but you don't have the white chalky powder imprinted by a Thai monk's fingers daubed on your internal roofing, so you're fooked!
