    Have I swatted a hornet's nest?

I am wondering if I have offended culture again here in the land of smiles, so I thought I would get your opinion.

My next door neighbor runs a couple nasty looking food carts and also has at least 6 stinky dogs. The whole place stinks, but his trash can is the worst. He places his BIG trash can in front of my house rather than in front of his place. In the first place its a bit difficult to park and worse is the rotten food stench that you smell when I exit my vehicle. When friends come over they have to pinch there noses when walking by it.

Anyhow, I got home today and due to rising temperatures the stench was even worse. As I approached my house a couple of rats jumped out of the can. I then took the liberty of shoving his trash can down the street to the other side of his property.

Mrs. Chi laughed, but thinks I have started a war.

    What do you think?

All the houses on the street are kept neat and clean except his. He has collected sacks of sand, bricks, his two nasty food carts.

Does anyone remember the sign I took down to True internet that said their serviced sucks? I put that in the trash and now he uses it to shade his property.

More like conflict avoidance, a Thai tradition.

Move the cans if they are a bother to you. If things get nasty with the neighbor, the mai pen rai bunch will take your side.

Leaving a note wouldn't hurt either, just so the message is clear.

I would have moved the can also,………and spoken to him about it. You have been a nice neighbor tolerating it for as long as you have.

Pick up the rubbish and throw it straight through his window of his shack. You could have him shot if he does it again but I'd be lenient on account of his accurate statement regarding the services of TRUE.

A food cart vendor is unlikely to be able to afford a hit man if you move the bin.
As a farang with unlimited funds you seem to have the psychological advantage. I say go for it and move the stinky bin. Just got to hope he is not a nutter with a gun and something against farangs though.

Expat moves a bin. Expat tells friends online he moved a bin. Expat's online friends confirm they would also move the bin and he made the correct decision to move the bin.

Another exciting day in wild Bangkok.

The good news is he has been in and out and not moved the bin back. The neighbor on the other side of him will have to deal with the stink and rats. She was out there peering at the trash can when I go home.

bkkmadness, I will keep this thread rolling as developments occur.

Perhaps it was the neighbour on the other side who moved the trash can in front of your house originally. After all why should the vendor care. A load scraping noise after midnight will mean the trash can is back.

Better seek out a record of prevailing wind conditions as the seasons roll around.
This could be a cunning set up. Cant trust those Thais you know.
