Actually he is a decent fella, respectable sort. He was there with some Tourist friends of his showing them around - not that he would have to have his arm twisted anyway!

But still, my mates income doesn't compare to Kate's, I just found it (as did he) a little strange that she'd be knocking around those parts without an entourage.

^She's a normal person, I'm sure there would have been a couple of body guards floating around in the background though.

Generally Thais don't like foreigners, Westerners included, regardless of how much money they have.

Many of them prefer foreigners with absolutely no money, as they are open to exploitation and manipulation; Burmese construction workers and young willing Khmer girls spring to mind.

As for the Westerner, the more money he/she has the more tolerated he/she will be, nothing more.

Unfortunately the deep, indoctrinated and underlying hatred and mistrust they have for us will not be affected.

I don't know about this. They sure seem to like us when we travel or live there. Where would Thailand be without tourism? They need people like us. Does the same rule apply for expats living there? Why the hate?

As for the waif..Kate....let her blow her money, hope she eats lots while she's on holiday. She could use it.
