What's this film about then? Just won a golden globe apparently.

The story of Jamal Malik, an 18 year-old orphan from the slums of Mumbai, who is about to experience the biggest day of his life. With the whole nation watching, he is just one question away from winning a staggering 20 million rupees on India's "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?" But when the show breaks for the night, police arrest him on suspicion of cheating; how could a street kid know so much? Desperate to prove his innocence, Jamal tells the story of his life in the slum where he and his brother grew up, of their adventures together on the road, of vicious encounters with local gangs, and of Latika, the girl he loved and lost. Each chapter of his story reveals the key to the answer to one of the game show's questions. Each chapter of Jamal's increasingly layered story reveals where he learned the answers to the show's seemingly impossible quizzes. But one question remains a mystery: what is this young man with no apparent desire for riches really doing on the game show? When the new day dawns and Jamal returns to answer the final question, the Inspector and sixty million viewers are about to find out. At the heart of its storytelling lies the question of how anyone comes to know the things they know about life and love.

I was happy for Winslett. I snickered at Brangelina -- twice they've lost out in the awards this year. I saw Changeling, and all I remember of her performance were her fat crimson lips. Rather forgettable.

Sounds like it might be worth a watch actually. Never heard of it before.

I can't find it on the net. It's quite funny, every time I put the word SLAGDOG!!!!!!! into google the top hits are always TD.

Chris Tarrant was miscast, the guy in the film was a slimeball...

I watched the GGA, it's just a lot of stupid pretentious TWATS that self promote each other, fawning for adoration, the best one was Mickey Rourke...he appeared as pissed/high as a kite...and the sickening homage to that plagurist/popularist Spielberg was sickening!
Slagdog Millionaire is a great movie, it is a misfit in those awards, thankfully! If you get the chance go and see it, it knocks the spots off Spielberg and his MEGGA BUDGETED PROPAGANDA CRAP!
Another one worth a look, if a little dated is, K19 - Widowmaker, but it does beat Jurrasic Park, (What really gutted me was that Close Encounters is nearly 30 years old...fuck how time flies eh?)...it sort of reminds me of how I thought about "gone With The Wind" when my Mother talked about it when I was a kid..."Like who wants to watch that old shit?"...

It is a shame more movies like this don't get rated, I am sure there are a lot more around.
What made me wonder was "How did this one GET THE CHANCE" to be shown?
The other MUST SEE (I know it's not a new movie anymore) is No Countery For Old Men..that takes some beating, and going back even further, "Donnie Brasco" and "Goodfellas".
Anyone know if you can get "Soprano's" 0on DVD here, never seen it, but apparently, it was reviewed by one of the original Mafia guys from the real Donnie Brasco incident and he reckoned it wa as real as it got!

Yeah can get the whole series in a box set. I have it, and spent a very pleasurable few days gorging on it! Alternatively you could just download the whole series and burn onto DVD's yourself

Just watched Slumdog last night and its a brilliant movie. Great storyline and soundtrack. This one gets 2 thumbs up from the FP.
