The train was the first option I checked last Friday. Fully booked I am afraid!

Got my travel agent working on it and she is trying to get me out by way of Uttapoooooooo by way of Singapore and then a connecting flight. I will find out tomorrow and she can only do it if I wear a Muslim get-up or pose as Dame Edna Everidge. I think I will go for the Dame Edna look!

Spoken to my little/big girl again and she understands the situation but preys I can make it. I've already paid for the wedding and the reception and I fear it will be the story of my life once again "All Dressed Up And Nowhere to Go"!
Get a taxi to run you down to Malaysia and then pick up another (share) taxi on the otherside to KL/Penang/Singapore. Post a message on websites to find others in the same boat who might share costs with you.

I'm sure the rats will be most concerned to see a formation of Chelsea supporters heading their way.

That would do it, spread the rumour that Chelsea is playing away in the departure lounge

    True!

My wife's friend jumped a train from Nong Khai to Bangkok Monday morning.
It was ~ 300 baht, cattle class. If she wanted to wait for the overnight train -- Free. She didn't.

I've posted it on other threads, but I'll do so again.

If you absolutely have to get out you can take the train or bus to Penang or Hat Yai. From Penang you can catch a flight to Kuala Lumpur (can take a train or bus, as well) and then fly on to your destination.

If you bus or train to Hat Yai, then you can get on an airconditioned bus and be in Kuala Lumpur in 9 hours. It drops you at a LRT (train) station from which you can go to Stesen Sentral and catch the express train to the airport.

Or you can get a bus to Alor Star, fly to KL and on to your destination (only two flights a day, morning and evening).

I think BKK Airways has a Pattaya (U-Tapao) to Samui flight as well.

Rumours say that there are now 2 daily flights between Samui and Singapore.
The normal flight leaves Samui around 4pm and Singapore around 8pm, don't know times for the extra flight.

BKK Airways also has a Samui - Hongkong flight.

There should be ways out LT but you have to start travel now and stop relying on your agent finding a direct flight,

Thanks for your advice KM and also received best wishes of good luck and possible solutions from many others. Really thank you all very, very sincerely.

I have managed to get on a flight SQ out of Uttapooooooo Thursday, arrive Singapore wait 3-4 hours there and connecting to Sydney arriving Friday morning.

My daughter wanted nobody else to walk her down the aisle and I am so relieved I can be there for her.

Can't confirm when I will be back as yet!

Again you lot are a really good bunch!

    Yeah, happy for you LT!

I got home last night a week afer leaving work in Spain.

Of course as soon as I arrived in Thailand I was informed that swampy had opened...

Didn't matter though, I was too busy scratching all the bed bug bites I picked up from the mini bus hell ride I took from Hat Yai.

Should have stayed at work for another week but then again it is good to be home.

Luckily I stayed in Sing and got a visa as they were only giving two weeks. God knows what I may have done at immigration if they did that to me, probably still locked up today.
