    How are you getting home?

I'm due to fly in Sat via Dubai. called my travel agent who performed a miracle and booked the last seat on a flight to Singapore where at least I can get my multi O visa and either try to either fly up to Bangkok or train it. So I still have my Emirates flight to Bkk or I have the option of taking the Singapore booking. Can fly to Phunkt for $275 but is even harder to get out of there to Bangkok on buses.

The trouble is I am carrying a bag full of warm jackets for my family and a large toy for my 7 year old son who was hoping to see his dad at swampy who he hasn't see for 3 months! Fahn cahns!

Should have named the thread "Bangkok or Bust"

Must be some interesting tales of getting in our out?

We're flying out on the 17th Dec to go home for Xmas. Just keeping fingers crossed this is all sorted out well before then.

All the best Ant. I certainly hope you don't miss the holidays with your family.

Let's hope the estimated 3 weeks until opening the airport is not accurate.

Thanks mate, but I'm really starting to fear the worst now. I was hoping that this would all be over in a few days, doesn't look like that now.

I'll be totally gutted if we can't make it. The whole point of going was so everyone can meet the latest additions to the family, plus my grandmother's not getting any younger and much as I hate to admit it this was probably going to be a goodbye trip too.

Thought had crossed my mind too.

Still, you'd think it would be but to coin an over-used cliche "TiT".

You can get the train, get the coach, or get a flight to Penang and go on from there, lots of choices

I'm due to fly in on Sunday evening from Riyahd, Etihad via Abu Dabi, still hoping it will be sorted by then. The Airline is basicaly saying 'wait and see'. Unfortunatly Thur/Fri is the weekend here and most things are shut so it might be a frantic time on Saterday trying to get to Singapore or some other place and try and get a flight to one of the reginal airports.

Might even try going to Lao and then Chang Mai, just going to do some searching on what are the options, off the top of my head it would be Phuket, Hat Yai or Chang Mai.
I have more than the average number of arm and legs

Funnily enough, I shall be (or not) on the same flight for the second leg. I depart LHR, connecting to the AUH-BKK flight you are on.

The Etihad office in the UK has been perminently engaged so far this morning...

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Getting the people out of the airport is only the first step. Then comes the fun, we dont what damage has been caused to the infrastructure. AOT is basically going to have to "re-commision" the place before safe air travel can take place, this will not take a "couple of days"

i'm seriously considering renting a car here in Phuket and chauffering any passengers that would like to go to Bangkok, this would be a service so a fee, it won't be overly expensive but it will be much more comfortable than a crowded bus with masses of strangers..and no freedom to stop, eat, etc. when and where you want..if there is interest I can see at least 3 passengers plus myself comfortably.. let me know....little time to make arrangements..

A friend of mine was due to fly into Bkk this Sunday. His airline has offered him a ticket to Singapore, so hes taken that, and will get a train to Phuket.
