Salary: £23,500 + benefits - (pay award pending)
Location: London
As an Intelligence Officer at MI5, you'll be faced with some of the most challenging issues affecting national security today. The decisions you make will play a major part in our efforts to counter terrorism, espionage, the spread of weapons of mass destruction and in protecting the UK's Critical National Infrastructure (CNI).
It's one of the most demanding, stimulating roles you could take on and also one of the most rewarding. Typically, you would start by assessing or investigating threats to national security; over your career, you could also be involved in personnel, finance, management or operational work, ranging from implementing policies to dealing with agents. You would have your own areas of responsibility but you would also be working as part of a wider team of people from a range of backgrounds.
Discretion is an integral part of working for MI5, so before you consider applying, ask yourself this: would you be content for your own and your team's successes to remain unknown outside the intelligence community?
You should have, or be expecting, at least a 2:1 honours degree or equivalent or have substantial relevant work experience.
If you perform to a consistently high standard throughout the recruitment process and bring relevant skills and experience, there may be opportunities to start on a higher salary or be considered at a higher grade.
To be eligible you must meet our residency criteria. You must be a born or naturalized British Citizen and one of your parents must be a British Citizen or have substantial ties to the UK. Candidates must normally have been resident in the UK for 9 out of the last 10 years. This is particularly important if you were born outside the UK. You will nonetheless be considered if you have, for example, served overseas with HM Forces or in some other official capacity as a representative of Her Majesty's Government, studied abroad, or lived overseas with your parents. Due to vetting requirements, you will need to be 18 years old, or above, to apply. Your application may take around six months to process.
Discretion is important to the Service, so please limit those you tell about your application to your partner and/or immediate family.
