It probably wasn't the ghosts of the tsunami that bothered them it was probably the fact the cops had sucked 30million from the 38 million baht that was donated that made the view "painful" and they didn't get 1 satang!

My favorite is that if you look down and between your legs

then you will see spirits. Especially if you are in a graveyard, crematorium, or near a plumeria tree. And no the pants do not have to be pulled down.

My little girl (5yo) lost her first 2 teeth on the same day last week.

Of course I told her the tooth fairy was going to come and we should leave the teeth in a glass jar next to her bedroom window. Then the tooth fairy would come when she was asleep and take her teeth and leave her some money.

Heard the wife talking to our new maid (from Isaarn) informing her why the teeth were there and she asked my wife whether a farang ghost was going to come into the house.

i have met many well- educated thais who still believe this crap. i may be wrong, but our old mate,thaksin seemed pretty educated, and somewhat westernised, but still believed in the same crap the uneducated ones do, consulted astrologists and partook in rituals, etc.
i believe it is part of the culture rather than education-related.
i suppose it doesnt help that the monks help promote superstition and belief in ghosts, etc, either.
come to think of it, most religious farang believe in spooks/ a spook, little flying people with wings and harps, an after-life plus a demon, sometimes more than one, so perhaps the whole thing, be it thai or farang superstition, can be blamed on religion??

No worse than the black cat crossing you path, walking under ladders or stepping on cracks in the pavement. Nonsense to some but to be obeyed by others.

I was working on a house once when I stepped on a crack under a ladder to avoid a black cat crossing my path, I think somebody, somewhere in the world died at that exact time. Maybe its all true.

No mate, I am not kidding, go and google "royal thai police corruption tsunami" you will see that a number of governments went ballistic about it, but alas, the investigation ground to a halt...as usual...rotten to the core...!
The Brits the Americans, and I think the Danes along with another 3 or four countries put together "a very strong letter" probably on a post it pad to the Thai government to explain where the 30 million shortfall went.
As the ROYAL Thai Police were in charge of the operation, it was they who were accountable.
Later, another number of countries protested too, in the end, the "FILTH" (for want of a worse description) put it down to "possible corruption!" Over 80% of the donations were creamed away by the ROYAL Thai FILTH!, money that was sent to help allieviate problems for all nationalities after 8000 people died here..that is what you are dealing with here in the LAND OF SMILES!

People are living in cloud cuckoo land, they do not understand how FUCKING ROTTEN some of this country is!
All of this corruption keeps getting swept under the carpet...eg. did you realise that the MEGA PROJECTS that have been bullshitted about over the past few years have actually managed to raise 2.5% (MAX) of the finance to complete them (and that is borrowed from one of their two bit banks)....so how many miles of railway is that going to buy the stupid fucks?
They live in a dream world...someone posted earlier a thread about Nero...by god, never a truer word...you see the GDP, the inflation, the way they keep lying about how they "expect" the next quarter to be "in line with predictions"...like Thailand is going to achieve 9% GDP... up my ass... the economy is going down the shitter, but the average fuckwit on the street doesn't give a rats ass..as usual, they are buying cars, getting into debt faster than you can say Bobs your fucking uncle.
Look at the stats that show Bank Deposit Rates for the past few months..they are bleeding like a haemophilliac, the banks have never had a decline in deposits like this EVER.
The REAL inflation here means that any savings deposits are actually creating NEGATIVE interest, the reason the foreigners are getting out of the Thai stocks is not purely down to the "global downturn" they have seen the WRITING ON THE WALL, this country is unable to sustain itself.
The next few months will make 1998 look like paradise...and the Thais? will stand there with the usual dumb fucking stupid look on their faces..going.."what happened?"
Samak et al keep on about pumping money into the system via mega projects or handouts to "stimulate" the economy...what, with inflation as it stands....it will only bring more inflation, who in Thailand out of the majority of people has money to burn?...pour some more petrol on the fire eh!

Okay, so 30 million baht is unaccounted for. That's roughly $1 million. I know that the US gave a hell of a lot more than that - around $300 million or so?

If the US gave 300million, put that with what all the other countries gave, then adjust the figure to account for corruption, and yes it becomes a lot of money scammed.
Exactly what did all that 300 million buy?
A few prefabs? some wood to make a few fishing boats? Most of the work was done by volunteers, so where did all the cash go?
A lot of people in Phuket and similar were kicked off their land by the local mafia/police/gov. officials, curious to see some receipts!
