    They don't where I live. Well they may do but it's not enforced.

    Bollocks - it's a completely legitimate question to ask. Why these drones are too lazy to even read fucking subtitles is beyond me. They'd rather listen to some badly acted dubbed version of a great movie.

    Durianfan, I agree, the dubbing is bad in Thailand but the dubbing as such is done on every movie in Germany too. Before the age of DVD I never came across a suhbtitled movie here. Why would anyone bother to read the subtitles?

    Welcome to Thailand. You are now part of the "communal" living tradition of Thailand. Has it's upsides and downsides. Ivor has the right idea. For those downside bits you cannot tolerate make sure the "community" understands it's not to your liking. They'll not be offended for long. All the rest, you can tolerate or ignore as do the Thais. The good news is you'll never have to stay home because your son will be without caring folks to watch over him. Being in a community where all your neighbors are Army can have good dividends as well.
