I presume you've never worked in Australia then? They make Thais look positively industrious.
Sounds kinda funny coming from a Pom. Lets see if the lazy Aussies don't kick Englands fat arse at the Olympics then.
Well, you completely missed what I was saying, and hit the nail on the head at the same time!

Aussies only put any effort into doing sport, but not work.

Forums like TD attract professional cynics. Not surprised to see so many slagging Thais. As you wisely point out, no matter where they are they would criticize and whinge about everything.

Guess the cynics must gain some sort of personal satisfaction viewing the world in such a negative light. A sad way to spend ones life when there is nothing to be gained with such cynicism.

As with all locations in the world, take the bad with the good. When the negatives outweigh the positives. Head for the airport. Shangri-La may be found if we search long enough.

I am under no illusions about Thailand. Though its not a place I would like to settle permanently, it does have a lot to offer and I will probably end up spending about half my time there in retirement.

When the negatitives get me down I will indeed be heading for the airport. Will probably end up spliting about 50/50 between LOS and OZ.
It will be nice to have the choice.

From what I can see it appears the biggest whingers are among those who have committed to a life in Thailand and don't have much options back in their home country. I guess the grass is always greener until you try and live there.

As long as we have stuff to dig up and sell to the rest of the world.
Probably a couple of hundred years at present rates, but who knows what will be in demand in the future.
Economic growth rates in developing countries are far outstripping that of developed countries. That trend is unlikely to change in the next century. So thing is that we are all going to have to work a lot harder to maintain living standards in future, if not already.

^ Agreed. Having the option is imperative.
Mine are UK - not right now thank you other than for a couple of weeks to do the family bit -
Aus - hmmm. occassionally for a while -
LOS -yup suits fine right now and I'm alweays pleased to get back.
As long as I can keep the options open it's all good.

Sorry that's not true. If a Thai has no food he/she can go to any Wat and will be fed free.
