I recently visited the major airport in Bangkok for a flight overseas, i had been warned about the police giving people at the two smoking areas a had time but i was not convinced.
however i was standing outside the terminal when i witnessed a group of brown clad police approach one of the smoking areas, me, being a eternal sticky beak, wandered over to watch.

The brown clad boys rounded up all of the people standing out side the smokers booth, proceeded to take photo's of each individual and happily handed out a 5000 baht fine to each person.

these smokers booths are very small and located outside the main terminal at either end of the building.

they are outside in the fresh air.

after visiting Singapore airport and having witnessed first hand how they can provide smokers areas INSIDE the main terminal, i wonder why Thailand would do what the are doing.

It certainly would not leave a good impression of Visiting Thailand if the last thing they receive is a fine for not being inside a small poorly ventilated glass box.

If Thailand was actually serious about appeasing tourists, they could certainly work out a better system than what they have, maybe make the booths larger so people are not forced to stand outside.
