So if me and me new buddy get the carb cleaned up and serviced with any new parts that are needed.

I connect it up, with new fuel in the tank.
    The new spark plug installed.
Might as well pick up a new airfilter while I'm out too.

So carb done, sparkie done, fuel done, air filter done, full charged battery....

If I go to kick start it and it's the same situation... stutters to start after 30 attempts, and cuts out as soon as there's any throttle given... what's next to check and/or replace?

    Cheers.

and a carborateur gasket. If it sucks in air there the engine will run badly or not all. Scrape both surfaces clean with a razor blade (without cutting into the metal).

    Carb cleaned.
New carb gasket (thank you mentioning it) and air filter (because why not, the more new parts while she's stripped down the better)

Me new buddy got stuck into cleaning me carb, he's the strong but silent type so I stood away and let him to his thang instead of standing over his shoulder clicking away photos. There was a good bit of power-air-hose blowing, metal brush scrubbing, and other assorted Turkish Bathhouse activities done to her, while in a bath tray of what smelled like petrol.

He didn't comment about anything needing to be replaced, just said it's nice and clean now after finishing.

    Maybe 20 minutes
    150thb.

Off to the spark plug shop to get a new air filter and ask if they happened to have a gasket.

Well, they only a full set of Click gaskets, of unknown quality though I'm sure.

    200thb for both.

Khao Soi shop next door ran by a couple of 100kg+ Ol' Gals in their 60s. Which is probably the decade they opened it.

    80thb for 2 bags.

People say Thailand is expensive nowadays, and maybe it is in some regards, but fokin' 'ell. Try getting a mechanic to dismantle and deep clean yer carb then buy an air filter and gasket set back home for 350thb $10, then pick up 2 bags of authentic Asian noodles for another 2 bucks or whatever.

I don't suppose installing the freshly cleaned carb without a new gasket will effect it's ability to (hopefully) start, run, and move too much? *crosses fingers*
You will get an air leak which will not allow it to run smoothly. But you have a new gasket anyway.

I answer these on a PC which I don't sit in front of all the time.

Don't spend a lot until you get it with the change of ownership form. Signed.

You wouldn't be the first guy to fix up a deserted mocy; only to get the owner reinterested in it again because now it works.

You'll need a signed photocopy of the owner's ID card to change vehicle ownership.

Which God among men said to clean the carb??

    It wasn't Chitty was it.

    Check this shiz out!!

Got the clean carb-o in with a bit of jiggling and luluing, had taken a photo pre-dismantling so could easily connect the hoses up correctly.
    New air filter installed first.

    And......

    I've never felt so alive

Looking at the Carb, there is a lot of lacquer, old fuel tunred to varnish on the "big thing that goes up and down to let air and fuel in - Lulu speak) and that may be causing it to stick and therefore causing the poor running, its letting just enough in to start it but as soon as you apply throttle its not opening and the engine dies.

Someone jammed a screwdriver in there a few times when changing the belt. Instead of using the correct tool?

Well done ! Have you changed the engine oil yet ? And filled it up to the correct level ? (not sure what how that is achieved in this motorcycle...Youtube it). And is the transmission oil separate, or same oil ? I haven't

worked on a motorcycle since 1977. Plenty of cars though.

    Cheers chaps/chapettes.

Now that she's running fantastically. Up to around 5kph at least, the next job is the back tyre, which is flatter than a Lulu B#.

With that sorted the seat can be put back on and I can give her a good ride to see how she handles and runs.

Back on the flower pots for Pinkie.

    Don't skip leg day.

Though it was no dice no matter how long I pumped her for.

Looks like there's a tube inside. Which the tyre has kinda folded over?

I tried prying the part of the tire back over the supposed tube and to the edge of the rim, but the bugger is lodged tight.

So with the tyre position done for the day, it seemed a bit of a shame to just leave her there. Naked. Dripping fluid. Derry-air in the air.

So got down on me back to finish off her undercarriage.

    After a good nuru-omo massage.

Then got stuck into the Tapper 6.5% and smashing her good n proper.

After a while it became clear that me big long thing just wouldn't properly slot through her tight small thing.

So I flipped it over to admire how far I had come.

But to be honest, even though she could stand, there was something about her that just didn't look quite right.

Might as well keep a total of the restoration cost.

    Tools + oil: 614.
    Omo: 20
    Spark plug: 80
    Carb clean: 150
Air filter and gasket set: 200

Carry the 7.... subtract the 3....

..... I'll total it up at the end.

    So.

As I'm, nay Team TD is in a bit of a limbo.

Tyre situation won't be sorted here and now.
Will get me new buddy Somchai to hammer the long thing into her thin thing, hopefully without his spring being bent 45 degrees.
    That will be done post-tyre'ing.

So what else could I do to her this afternoon.

Connect up the front starter switch and be left heart broken when she doesn't give so much as a beep let alone start purring like a kitten at me gentle button pushing.

    Or would she....

I wasn't exactly brimming with confidence.

I mean, look at the fookin' state'a her. There was a mouse and mouse nest deep inside here 4 or 5 days ago.
