I love maps... I was lucky enough to start in my industry when there were still proper cartographers... many trained at The Admiralty in Taunton. The guy I meet up with in Bangkok (now retired) was trained as a cartographer at the Ordnance Survey in Southampton. Making maps of the seabed isn't so different to making maps of the land, we just use soundings instead of elevations. It's all digital now of course and many of the old skills are disappearing.
As my mother ages she has been gradually clearing out the house and loft and I worry I'll arrive back and all the maps will have been given to a charity shop.
A few years ago all my vinyl went into landfill... loads of Bowie and Lou Reed albums along with a huge selection of Eighties stuff... probably a couple of hundred albums in all. I don't want that to happen again.
