That will just denude poor countries of all their talent, and swamp richer countries causing infrastructure and housing overload, social destabilisation and increasing hardship for those left behind in the poorer countries.

Utopia only exists in the minds of leftist dreamers.

I think Troy was referring to expats and those with transferable skills to be able to share those skills. If there are a lack of skills in the host country. Personally I have benefited not only financially from all my expat assignments. To work in another culture alongside locals can enable the expat to gain a greater understanding of the host country and its mindset, its not all about You. Infact it would not surprise me if the UK had to import dentists from so called developing countries to deal with the state of the populations teeth

    Wishes that *could* realistically happen.

    1. A 4 day working week and a 3 day weekend.

    2. Britain to rejoin the EU.

    3. Beer to be allowed again on Thai trains.

I'm a simple man with simple pleasures...

    1. No person with an IQ of under 110 be allowed to vote for anything. Ever.
    2. A safe, clean, limitless, earth friendly source of power
    3. All non-ice deserts transformed to arable land.

Failing that, a burger fries and a coke.

what exactly is your point. if such freedoms were available then poorer countries would soon empty as those with any skills or no skills would head for richer countries and their higher wages. who would heal the sick, fill the teeth, dig the ditches, mend the cars or clean the toilets in bongo bongo land if they have all fucked off to zurich, los angeles or sydney.

The expat is usually there to train the local to a standard that's acceptable to the company that imported him or her. Once you have trained your counter part the idea is that you GO and they stay. If they have gleaned enough knowledge from let's say, me, or you then the balls in there court but it doesn't mean they will be granted a visa to where they may have set there sights on. It's not as simple as that.

For example. The mine I worked on in Laos had a finite life of about 30 years before Minerals were exhausted early in the game it became apparent to the company that the Lao folk simply didn't have the skills and needed extensive training these people were engineers or geologists . A Lao mate of mine is a geo and he was selected to go for a scholarship to the school of mines in WA accompanied by his familythe company paid his rent etc but he still needed a gig at burger King to get by. Upon his return to Lao he was beholden to the company for another 4 years. He still thinks its better in Oz. But can't get a visa now he is un sponsored. His 4 years are almost up and as the company is Chinese and no longer Australian run I suspect he will bail out and look for expat gigs in the region . Goodluck to him

Tax I suspect your world view comes from watching the UNITED Kingdom being not so united? Or watching to many episodes of coronation street. The world has changed tax and people with any sort of nouse, a bit of get up and go and some skills will gladly relocate. Look at the Filipinos. You couldn't find a more patriotic bunch of folk willing to toil in bumfuck places, remit the salary back to the p.i to fund a house. Put kids through school etc in the hope that once set up they can return to the p.i. I've worked with plenty of Filipinos and they got the skills. In comparison to the Lao. Who don't.

I agree with you. But that is very different to anyone and everyone having free access to go and work wherever they want.

It was Eos who asked Zeus to make Tithonus immortal. Unfortunately, she forgot to ask for his eternal youth. She got what she asked for. It didn't really end well. Or at all.
Beer on Thai trains sounds like a winner.

Indeed many sleepless card games on the 16+ hrs rattler SRT Hua Hin to Penang in an era when I needed no comforts.
I belive they stopped the through sleepers and all night carousing during the fun purge.
Thailand today quite suitabley for the shagged out ole wrecks like me is more like a Sunday school in terms of fun, while they clamp down on pleasure the driving health and safety as bad as ever!

I once slept on decks in tranquil Lakes Untersee, McQuarie, Ontario and wilder transits of Med, Black Sea, North Sea , Irish seas when my years of self medication hadn't caught up with me. I used to dream of my cabinmate Anna and waves of custard, no amount of therapy will ever erase those thrills.

I used to sin til late, now I sin until 10pm then have my Ovaltine?absinthe tincture or remedial message if lucky, nod off few hours until a desperate need to pee!!!

Thanks for those who actually answered the question sooner than critique the choice of others.

Sad news Keira's rationing me to once a year, good news tonight's the KNIGHT

    It's 3 wishes Tax.

Imho nationalist views, such as yours, are the main reason for wars.

...and Mike, I still work with that girl every day. We just changed the boundaries a little to ensure happiness for all.

    1. for nature to achive balance again, yep fuk humans we are a plague and don't deserve our place on this planet. every time i see a wildlife programme it makes my heart sink, i quite frankly don't give a fuk with saving people, we don't desrve it. Its a race as to whther we'll off ourselves or some natural solution will achieve it but it can't come soon enough.
