I would expect most of us here to know what 'God' is in Arabic but I would be surprised if many know the word for 'god'.

As most of us know, the word 'God' is Allah ( الله ). However, the Arabic word for 'god' is Ilah ( إله ).

The Muslim declaration of faith contains both words: "There is no god but God... لا إله إلا الله (laa ilah ila allah...)

I'm sure it was a typo, Willy, but while I'm on the topic of accuracy, here it is without the typo. Ramadan Mubarak.

If you've ever lived in Muslim countries, you'll know that it's coming to the time when you need to move that belt buckle a few notches along.

    Eid is on the horizon!

That’s true. And then move that belt buckle back right after Eid!

Eid Mubarak to your wife and family, Willy.

And to all who celebrate this special day (tomorrow for most of us).

Thanks for your great contributions to this thread of harmony, respect and tolerance.

    Great work Will and TD!

It’s Ramadan so I’m not going to argue with you. Now this iftar drink might be an iced tea or it might be an Old Fashioned.

i am a jew by birth, but i am 100% atheist and do not obseve religious practices, attend synogogue or take part in celebrating jewish festivals.

thankfully, religion plays no part in my life.

willy is a muslim, prattles on about it endlessly one way or another and is a copious consumer of alcohol and pork. both proscribed by his faith on pain of severe punishment.

he is is a hypocrite and a poundshop muslim.

and i am neither a hypocrite nor thankfully a muslim.
