Likewise. Usually I go to bed early, seldom later than 10pm.

Then I wake up in the wee hours (ahem) for the bathroom or get woken by a dog wanting to go outside, then wanting to come back in again. After that my mind wanders about, trying to find things to worry about. I usually do get back to sleep, maybe an hour or so later. Overall I probably manage 7 to 8 hours, spread over 8 to 10 hours, and wake up ready for a long nap.

I should have emphasized 'the enough part"

Now I am retired and no commute to work I can usually have enough sleep.
Luckily most of my career mornings were shared with equally dozy buggers who created few waves/tasks until we had all had a few coffees.

I do notice that the mini vans still regularly crash due to drivers dozing due to unsafe distances expected by an unmonitored regulator , the tachograph has been in cabs for decades.
