I spent 9 weeks in a medium-sized town in Florida.

They are an odd lot. People from other Western countries often get culture shock after arriving in the US.

This is very true as well. Most of those evangelicals are in the south and midwest. Here is a map that should help;

The states in blue mostly vote for anyone other than Trump. They are also more prosperous, better educated, more worldly etc. The states in red are more evangelical, lesser educated, more bigoted, have the highest rates of obesity, they are also most likely to vote for Trump.
