I spent 9 weeks in a medium-sized town in Florida.

They are an odd lot. People from other Western countries often get culture shock after arriving in the US.

So you are truly clueless about what America is really like. Floriduh is a freak show. Not representative of most of the rest of the country.

This is very true. Once again it is a regional thing. Those living on the coasts tend to be more well traveled and better educated. They also do not vote for the orange moron.

    This is very true as well. Most of those evangelicals are in the south and midwest. Here is a map that should help;

Have you ever been to the US?-householdincomeblueredswing_3colormap_web-jpg

The states in blue mostly vote for anyone other than Trump. They are also more prosperous, better educated, more worldly etc. The states in red are more evangelical, lesser educated, more bigoted, have the highest rates of obesity, they are also most likely to vote for Trump.

At work I always have to keep my Spellcheck to English (UK) because English (American) is too basic and the spelling's all wrong.

But your phrase there was absolutely perfect for English (UK) and could have been used in any Somerset country pub with complete acceptance.

Is that American vernacular, or is your use of proper insulting language what you have picked up from the Brits on TeakDoor?
I like to think of Snubby as one of our own.

Your use of what in a relative clause instead off that has me wondering if we might do a swap though.

Fair enough, but your use of 'off' in whatever kind of clause that was, has me wondering as well.

    Fucking hell!!!

I was just checking my post history and saw this, but you'd already noticed it!

    In my defence:

    a) I was on my phone and it auto-corrected

    b) you are an Arsenal fan

    c) you dress Yogi up in your wife's knickers

^ The old 'on my phone' excuse, hey.

I'm mainly a Bristol City fan, just a part time Arsenal fan.

And it's Anna who has occasionally worn lingerie. Try that kind of thing on Yogi and you'd lose your hands.

    Occasionally.

Didn't Fred West occasionally bury people under his patio?

Not since 1973 when I left the East Coast (NY suburbs and Buffalo) and moved to the SF Bay area which was not really part of the US according to many. My emal tag line was:

    Don't blame Berkeley for Trump:

    Clinton 58,690 88.27% (Our Precinct 654)
    Stein 2,963 4.46% (Our Precinct 42)
    Trump 2,106 3.17% (Our Precinct 35)
    Johnson 898 1.35% (Our Precinct 0)
    Turnout 78.29%

I think that we were one of the few cities where Jill Stein out polled Trump.

It kills me what is happening to your great country (ergo the rest of the world).

It really does. I hate the far right more than you could ever imagine. I really do.

On the plus side, my Reform voting old folks are waking up a bit. They didn't understand when I told them what would happen with Trump and Putin when I was home at Christmas- now they're like "oh, you told us this would happen..."

Americans were warned for months not to vote for this orange abortion. So many great personalities came out publicly. It was not enough, sadly.

You watch from the outside. I am living this trauma in real-time all day, every day. You know I am passionate about Ukraine, as has been proven, I have by far the most posts in the Ukraine threads here. The last person that wanted this idiot in office was me. I will tell you right now if I got in the same room as the [at][at][at][at]...

... I better bite my tongue. The Secret Service could be listening.

    This is only half funny.

As I said elsewhere, they are systematically dismanlting the apparatus of government and anything is possible.

Zelensky was belittled for wearing uniform that he will continue to do so until the war is over, just the same as Sir Winston Churchill did in WW2. Ukraine is todays WW2 UK. We have been here before, my friends.
