LP was good only to find the taxi fare from the airport to your first nights accommodation. Afer that its up to you to source the information.
Most of my vloggers interact hugely with locals... in fact a few of the vloggers I follow were in a tuk tuk race kind of thing in Sri Lanka not long ago. They had all these challenges to do to get points, and they had to interact with the locals.... very fun times and insightful!
Good to know & good for him. I'm glad that his channel is now big enough to enable him to travel to Antarctica, Patagonia & other far off places. I'll visit his channel sometime.

Re: travelling & travel vlogs, yes travelling by yourself is the best way. However, sometimes people are hindered by finances, jobs, family obligations, etc that they can't travel as much as they want. So these travel vlogs provide information AND entertainment. It's relatively free entertainment - no need of a Netflix subscription, TV license fees or devices like Apple TV, etc. You just need a phone/ tablet/ laptop & Internet or data connection.
Also, travel vloggers have "democratized" travelling. Before, it was only large TV/ cable networks who could produce travel vids, and they are heavily edited & censored. Nowadays, anyone can upload a vid on YT, IG, Tiktok, etc. This has its pros & cons - that everything must be picture perfect & Instagramable, fake reviews/ reactions, etc.
To each their own...
Well this is true that anyone can upload a video, but not everyone is good at editing or using a drone to capture amazing scenery. That is why some vloggers that are popular or good at their craft get a big following and can afford to make a living from it. Vloggers with over a certain amount of views, and subscribers can get sponsors like squarespace for example (website builder) and make money from them as well. I mean good on them. Some vlogs are really informative, interesting and insightful, not only for people wanting to go to these places, but just for general information and a laugh or two.
I know Note, from FloraandNote, worked for a Canadian company while living in Koh Samui, but his youtube got so popular that he could make enough to quit his job and do vlogging full time with his wife. I wish I knew about this way back when, as it is something I would have loved to get into.
^lol,, nah I'd have to figure out how to fly a drone and edit videos, but if I could do that part, rest would be easy peasy...
I've made a ton of vids of my travels in the past, but my camera was crap and they aren't that good.
@MM - yeah, I see those ads/ sponsorships from Square space, Nord VPN, ridge wallet, Established Titles (scam), etc. And yes, it's tough to travel, film & edit all at once. Some channels/ vloggers who become "big" enough they hire editors, videigraphers, etc.
Jason Billam was a TEFLer in China. AFAIK, he saved up & backpacked in many countries while blogging and like the others, was able to make a living out of it. Some vloggers take breaks/ time off to rest & recharge. Can't blame them - everyone needs a break from work. In this case, their work is travelling & making vids.
It's also tough to get a market. Similar to the TV/ film industry, looks sell. Some show abs, T&A, etc - if they're blessed with good bodies. Some don't flaunt their bodies so they have to have an engaging personality, good scripts, sense of humor, cinematography, etc.
I've also seen some couples who've separated - maybe bcos it's tough being w/ your partner 24/7 and being business partners too. I've also seen some who've quit being vloggers because they don't want to be in the public eye anymore - too many nosy ppl wanting to know their personal stuff. All up to them...

for gods sake.
the internet. turning adults into infants.
Oh, MM has pretty much managed that on her own, no?
Symptom, not cause.
Oh come on tax, you know you want to try it.
TukTuk Tournament – The Adventure Race Through Sri Lanka
It looks like an absolute blast, maybe a bit too young for you though. You have to have a sense of adventure and a sense of humor to attend.
I sometimes watch Chuck in notime2bsad. I'm too lazy to jump in the car and to go on lengthy drives in Thailand so I just watch Chuck do it.
Yeah for sure! I like how a lot of the vloggers support each other. I often see some of my vloggers together making a video or travelling together. A few people I follow were all in the tuk tuk tournament and made separate vids. Anyhoo, must be nice life to get paid to travel, but agree with you that is is a lot of work, having to make the vlog and edit it.
When I was travelling it was quite a long time ago, they didn't have the cameras they have today. Plus, I didn't have a microphone like they have today when they take a video they usually use a go pro and have a little microphone attached to their bodies. I had none of that technology, but wish I had.
To answer your question MM, NONE!. I can't watch Vloggers. Something about it annoys me. Maybe because it is such a time sink to sit and watch when I could be out living it or off doing something else. I seldom watch YT and never ever on my phone. In general I put my phone down when I am out and about. Its really astonishing when you go somewhere, put your phone away and then see how many people are glued to theirs. Its rather disturbing quite honestly. Nobody strikes up a conversation, nobody looks at others and smile and most are viewing utter mind numbing shit. Guess its the world we live in now.
That said, I guess if I was planning a long trip somewhere, I might do a bit of research and probably would try and watch a few to get some information about it. But you can google a place or location and there are some good reads which I initially did a long time back on Vietnam.
LORD.... about a year back someone sent me a link to that guys Vlog. I watched a few. I could not imagine having a camera stuffed in my face every damn day recording content to keep subscribers. What a life. I always felt soon he would show him taking a morning piss and shit, shaving, scratching his ass all the while recording it for another vlog upload. Most seem to do it for money, likes, subscribes etc. But whatever floats their boat as they say.
His first trips to Latin America - Bolivia and Mexico - were cringeworthy. However, when he teamed up Timmy Karter to follow the path of the caminantes from Venezuela to the U.S. via the notorious Darien Gap it morphed from lighthearted travelogue to unintentionally good guerilla journalism.
