    Thai Facebook Should be Banned...

When I say Thai Facebook, maybe I mean Facebook in Thailand or Thais Using Facebook (or perhaps just Facebook) - should be banned...

    1) It seems to be home for endless scammers.

    2) Many Thais are so gullible to these scammers.

    3) Isn't Facebook just an idiotic place anyway?

I've never used Facebook, know nothing about it, but people who use it seem to be mostly morons, and in Thailand either morons or scammers.

That's my thought/moan for the day.
    Cycling should be banned!!!

Why would a company tell you that on facebook? I get texts and emails with that kind of scam, but i thought it was common sense to not click on those either.

I use it mostly for business promotions.

I temporarily suspended my accounts for a few months not so long ago and it really made things difficult for me.

The FB Marketplace is not available offline, for example.

    It's all adverts nowadays.
Pretty crap compared to its halcyon days ten years ago.
Still, it's a decent way to keep in touch with old friends and family that you probably wouldn't have stayed in touch with.

I had established a Fagbook account when it first basically launched but seldom ever used it as I wasn't sitting around a computer so it sat dormant.

However about 3 months ago I reactivated it as Dirk said, you can't see the market place. I was using my wife's acct on her tablet to view it but that is too much work. Fagbook in general is a shit site. Too many ads, always showing things for you which I didn't ask for and I can see why Thai folk and young people in general globally succumb to scams. It's that get rich quick deal.

Fagbook serves a purpose if used properly and I have to admit, it was nice to reconnect with a few family members and friends and they were surprised to see me back online.

I use the messenger service to speak with my kids in America. When there is a good game on I hook up with friends on messenger and chat during the game. Other than that its not of any use to me.

Candy Crush is the reason that Thais are so slow off the lights when they turn green.

As a source of information and as other have said, maintaining contact with friends, it is a useful tool. I recommend installing Social Fixer as a means of filtering out some of the less desirable elements of FB:

Social Fixer for Facebook fixes annoyances, adds features, and enhances existing functionality to make Facebook more fun and efficient

Facebook is probably the most effective marketing platform that ever existed.

And even the free package is enough, with cheap options for a greater reach.

It’s what you make of it.

    Works for me. Especially Marketplace.
Although I will admit I've seen numerous people trying to scam me on there in the past few months.
Just have to be aware of their tricks.

Instagram seems to becoming a better way to see what the folks are doing back home, but it comes down to age I believe.
25-45 year olds seem to use instagram more.
The over 60 crowd- definitely FB.
    Under 18-Tiktok.
Who do you want to stay in touch with?

My wife can multitask and spends hours simultaneously watching crap on Facebook while also watching crap on TV.

She also seems to be addicted to buying shite on Facebook and we have an endless stream of crap turning up at the house in little cardboard boxes. Most of this seems to be single use plastic kitchen utensils which invariably break on first use if they can even be used for the purpose for which they were designed. Among other things, we have a pressure cooker with a flimsy plastic lid that doesn't fit, a selfie stick with a clamp too big for a phone and a set of plastic pickling jars that get threaded if you tighten the lids to make them airtight.

The wife also buys an inordinate amount of 'health' drink powders which she likes to mix up in the mornings in the belief that they will counteract a shitty diet and telly-watching lifestyle.

But all said and done, thankfully she doesn't have a credit card and doesn't understand QR codes so everything is bought COD and I see little scope for her to be properly scammed... I just look at all this crap as one more expense of living in Thailand. If she's out when anything turns up I just say I've got no money and send the delivery guy away.

Lets be honest here, TD isn't what it used to be as has been discussed and moreover the cross section of members are up in years and do not do much which fine, its life but it does limit the discussion content. Its just become stagnate for the most part.

I never used to use FB because typically I could find some information here or on a few "For Sale" sites and I have always worked here and was always busy and didn't have the time nor wanted to make time for it. Now, however, TD has degraded to nothing but a bitch and piss forum for the most part and while fun at times to talk shit with long time members, its becoming rather boring to read. MK's news updates are noteworthy and I enjoy reading them and PAG is a helluva a chef. Aside from that there are some who post pictures to have fun and keep the site going and others who spend their time talking shit about those people's pics rather than contribute. Some is done in jest and it is funny and good banter to pass a bit of time but some is vile hate and envy.

At this juncture my time on TD will be limited. I will post some stuff as I have time for fun.

    It was a good run.

That is the truth. At this point in my life I enjoy a large cross section of people I stay in touch with. My work colleagues and friends range from 30 to mid 50's. My other personal friends have the about the same age window. I think in life it is important to have and sustain and nice mix of folks at all ages. It keeps you in touch with their lives and how things are changing and your older friends so we can laugh about it. It was strange to go back on FB as I had a large group of friends, both personally and professionally and now I have reconnected. I will say I do like FB as I can load videos and not have to go through YT to do it which is a pain in the ass.

As do I. Anyone I wish to stay in touch with I do via the many ways we have now. LINE, WhatsApp, Skype et al. Not so much FB.
