Retired in Thailand. My next move will be my last and involves travelling up a chimney in a temple in Khon Kaen province. Have you missed me? I said I would be back and here I jolly well am!

Already hit the 100kg plus mark. I won't divulge the exact weight for fear of being fat shamed by teakdoors skinny kunts. All will be revealed in my next pic Fred starting and finishing in bali via udon thani and vientiane, luang prabang , vang vieng etc. I will do my best to put the bogan back into Balinese culture. If they will allow it? I promise not to be a social influencer , but should that happen by accident i will accept the monetisation of my shenanigans.
    Thank you

I’ve already retired and I’m here in Thailand for the long term. I’m about 8 years older than my wife but if for some reason she were to pop her clogs before me … I’d be gone and back to Ohio soon after the dust settled.

Ok. I won't fill you guys full of shit .but my last weigh in was 129kg and that's about 30 kg overweight. Pretty sure the weight gain came from quitting the 3 pack a day smoke habit. Saved my lungs. Gained some tubby but fuck it. I feel good. Can breath normally don't wake up coughing my ring piece up anymore. And in Lao smokes were like $1.00 a packet likewise the beer. In Australia the fuckers want $50 for 1 pack . Thank fuck that's 1 addiction less. Smoking would of sent me broke

I am sick and tired of the heat and humidity of SE Asia. Next week I travel to Norway for work, and I know that within two days I will be sick of the cold.

I found a big positive out of Covid... closed borders meant six months straight in Korat with with the wife... before that, at the tine, in 15 years of marriage I had never spent more than 6 weeks with the wife/at home. Regular offshore work rotations had saved me from that chore.

I now have no idea where/when I will retire, but I know it won't be in Korat... after six months straight, been there, done that.

I stil enjoy my work and will keep it going for as long as possoble, even if for just 2 or 3 months a year. One thing I do know, from my and friend's experiences, a happy retirement doesn't just happen, you have to plan it, and have something to retire to. Otherwise you are better off continuiing to work.

We lived in thailand for about 15 years after my early retirement, sometimes with the wifes family in BKK and sometimes at our condo in Hua Hin, and it was fine at first, but for me, boredom slowly set in. i dont do golf, cycling or bars, but i do like to walk.

I like the outdoors and thailands weather is not conducive to a lot of outdoor activity. the heat, humidity and the pollution make the experience unpleasant. but I like the country, the food and the laid back easy going lifestyle, the convenience of everything, and being a foreigner in thailand certainly has more advantages than disadvantages, but we both hankered for a change and so we now spend about half our time in the uk, in yorkshire, and the rest of our time in thailand.

2 trips of 3 months or so and that suits us fine, and for me i avoid all contact with thai immigration offices. i come on a 60 day tourist visa and extend, or a 90 day non immig. visa.

the english weather is no problem for us, i prefer the unpredictability of the uks maritime climate with its changing skyscapes and seasons to the awful 8 months of endless sunshine , the air is good and the food much healthier, and often cheaper too. we couldnt believe the supermarket prices in thailand recently, and when eating out, you can never be really sure of the quality of a lot of the macro/china sourced ingredients. thai politics doesnt bother me any more than the shit-show at the moment in the uk does, although with no debts and 6% interest on savings, long may the shit show continue.

so for the time being its the best of both worlds.

I was 141/142 when I moved back here a year ago. Dropped to 129 in 5 months but have been stuck there since.

So, just how bored are you now?

    Hugely, surely.

You'd have to be, to be this tedious.

You'll be back at it in about six hours, eh.

I am drawing my pension but still haven't retired. When I do, it will simply be a matter of moving into our house in the sticks. I'm not sure if we will even bother moving our stuff over from Germany, may bring a few things and sell the rest before we pack up and leave.

I still like the contrast of two different worlds, they are so different and I find that refreshing.

TBH, I'm quite scared of a life in retirement without working at all.

Covid showed many WFHome options either paid or voluntary?

A Thai garden and house could keep you busy , I'm not one for bars but like golf rarely ,sailing, cycling and watching sport .

I am sure you will find as the body slows , but not the mind there are plenty of options, relaunch TD? Write a book, help family launch a business , plenty of time to kickback.

In my experience a garden, or time in fabulous Thai flora and fauna, some water , good family, keep friendly with neighbours, net and food will keep you content. If you are whizz at 3D printing I have a new project which may be of interest PM me.

Haven’t thought that far ahead yet. Working fo another 12-14 years at least. I’d love to spend summers in warm places over the next ten years, as I get two months off in the summer. I may end up working abroad again next year, so who knows where I’ll end up.

I’m just living life year by year for now. Good thing is I can do as I wish as I have no one telling me what to do!

I might open up a small second hand book shop in Chaing Mai selling coffee and cup cakes and crumpet catering mainly to the expat community.
I might also offer advice on a Internet forum getting members backs up for a few hours daily while my cup cakes and crumpets are baking.
Don't really like the idea of doing nothing in retirement, lying on a beach all day and catching the occasional hollow tube would get borrrrinnnngggg after a few months
    Shalom

    Sorry the inner child

Enjoy life there are so many threads to unravel

Imagine waking up at 65 realizing you spent one year of your fit best years arguing with random wranglers on Teardork

You may well desire a pension sooner than have to shovel snow or deliver Tim Whoreton's or BuggaKing in your dotage.

I feel AI will replace some classroom jobs but teachers with special needs will alway sbe tresured.

I expect IP lawyers and Seal Clubbers cannot be replaced by machines.

You could also adopt a poor third world expat to care for a down on his luck dentist or one of the dentally Andy Capped at least.
Also some of the toothles she has pulled off in Wrongmat.

These poor gummies would love a well blended Canadian consomme a veloute of virtue a broth of breath.

Anyway look forward to broth all photos.Ooh knows they may be selected for Chitty's pulled pork Yuletide pop up cook book.

Many nourishig soups can be part of a controlled diet by subtle use of smaller buckets, bowls and my patented dribbel spoon, small hole drilled to allow ticknology to overcome nappytite
