I tried smoking off the old tires on my 660 Raptor. And the tires didn't really want to smoke. They spun but not much smoke..I had to add some engine oil. Maybe that was because it was an off road compound. You didn't add any oil or anything eh

Well in all honesty, you have to be a bit of a dickhead to fuck it up on a straight road.

The point is , most ppl are vastly over estimating the riding competency of the riders involved in these crashes. They think that they are just idiots going too fast. When really , they arent even speeding most of the time. It gives motorcycles an unfair bad name

Not knowing how to counter steer is a big problem. And a danger to the public. Competent riders who go fast aren't the problem.

Competent riders get hurt in intersections

Sand and gravel on the outside of the lane causes more accidents than counter steering.

Fuck you it does. I can post clips and clips of wipeouts where it is obvious that sand and gravel isn't a factor

I’d say sand and gravel is the biggest factor on Koh Samui.

Most of the single rider accidents I've seen in Thailand, and a couple I've had personally, are due to that. But that won't stop Backspin from thinking he's the smartest guy in the room.

Yep, sand, gravel and slick roads when they are wet, i came off on Koh Chang doing 30 kph on a slight wet curved downhill it was lethal with the first rains of the season and the oil film on the road.

And this guy didn't know it.

But in the aftermath, obviously people will think we had another Valentino Rossi here, who went way too fast around the curve. Bikes are dangerous, don't you know..

That guy looks like a total noob. He hasn't even got his feet on the footpegs.

There are two nasty hill curves on Koh Chang that I have left skin on, and was even going slower than you. One between the ferry and White Sand Beach, and the other between Kai Bae and Lonely Beach. Both with fresh rain following a drought. Slick as fuck.

^ yep, can't touch the breaks and still went engine breaking and bit of front. It has literally just started raining. Lesson learnt on those koh chang roads. Never go in the rainy season.

Was a 150cc 2-smoker. NSR150SP I think. Local mechanic pinned all the farings back together and asked for something like 150 baht after an hour's work.

Got a Kawa 400 for the mountains and a Kawa 650 for the road at the moment. Don't really ride much because I'm lazy.

Might pick up a project bike to do something with if I can ever be bothered. Maybe an old SP 2-smoker, or Gixxer 1000 inline 4.

Will finish me Lego technics Ferrari first, and then the incoming technics Lambo and Bugatti, and see how inspired I am to do it for real.

It would need a test rider, if you're around Mike.

Yeah highsided my old SR500 a few years ago.

Late arvo riding into the sun, did not notice the sandy dust on the curve out near the lake... and she all turned to shit.

Luckily It was mainly bark I lost but the should was sore for weeks.

Dumb shit back spit will be along soon to say "happened on a curve, rider did not countersteer"................

Been on a few rides on Koh Chang ( Scooter) and even those can be a handful underneath those heavily shaded areas after a rain and the road is slick. Did a couple of wash outs but saved it.

    Well Gee. that's a nice conflict of moto's to ride 150cc and a 1000cc.

While Backtrack Skiddy rides, he doesn't really know fuk all about it. He is one of those weekend warrior types. Rides on and off but thinks he knows it all.

I have found blazing around the mountains up here in Lampang that there are numerous variables that cause a rider to take a dive. One thing I find to be the biggest is the sand and gravel residue left behind by dump trucks and usually in corners as they are typically filled to high and when they go along the roads and turn in the corners they spill out the excess. That and heavily shaded roads after a rain. The water is still there and it can cause a good ass pucker when you feel the moto sliding out only to save it and have a good tank slap recovering.

Back in the states I had a riding buddy die on a moto trip we were on to Las Vegas as he drifted a bit to the shoulder and caught some gravel and sand and the bike just went right out from underneath him and it was over. We were probably clipping 85mph.

Bought a cheap ($275 USD) bike today for riding between my home/Kuang Si waterfalls/Luang Prabang town. It's a 150cc ZingZang (or whatever fcukwit Chinese name) with Vietnamese plates that was bought in Cambodia and ridden over to Laos. Seems to run OK, needs a check on the flasher light electrics. Has new tyres etc.

    Motorcycle talk-img_20230621_131819-jpg

By the way, whatever happened to 1-down-4-up gear changes? These bikes all seem to have 1-down-2-down-3.....and when you get to 5-down then keep going to neutral and then start again from 1! Like a merry-go-round

Oil film after light rain is a big problem and oil in general. I remember turning left at a T intersection at about 15 kph and an oil film on the road made the front wheel slide straight out and i was on my ass. Luckily no damage to me and minimal on the bike due to the low speed.

Competent riding or competent thinking ?

If you do not factor in giant potholes, dogs, loose buffalos, road rollers parked on the freeway with only a branch as warning, idiots that very unexpected go faster than you, uturns, drivers who signal one way and turns the other, drunks and other traffic then yes; competent drivers can go fast and safe in Thailand.

    Good luck

I'd recommend you to get your steam off on a racetrack.

A little unfair as even the slightest mistake can make someone look stupid. I couldn't find the full video on rnickeymouse but have seen quite a bit of footage he has taken on Muholland snake, CA and quite a few of the accidents. This one looks like the back end has stepped out either due to bumps in the road or rider using too much rear brake. The bend probably tightened more than he expected and he went in a little too hot. The foot off the peg is last ditch reaction to counter the slide.

Accident has nothing to do with a lack of counter steering.

That's what you think. But you'd be wrong.

Wet or dirty roads are never mentioned in the reports. Whatever. A bunch of tossers have dug their heels in on some stupidity and would never admit I was right on anything regardless.

I am literally providing gifs that shows what is going on to make it easier for you. You don't even have to click on a video

There's a whole YouTube channel with videos like this. And dirty roads has nothing to do with it. I am right. You know I'm right. But you won't admit it
