^^Thanks, but 'living off the land' is overdoing it a bit.

We grow some lettuce and some limes, but it ain't living off the land.

Good luck, Simon - keep the pictures coming.

I expect total disaster, but wish you a wonderful and fulfilling time. The dolls are gorgeous, and they're easier to date than real women.

An admirable enthusiasm for adventure and novelty, but I fear that this is once again destined to end in further disappointment for Simon.

I wish him well. Most entrepreneurs go through a series of failures before finding the formula for success. Not that I'd label his travels as failures, just stations along the way. I am thinking maybe Simon is there now. And if it is just another station then so what? He has the resources and adaptability to move on, which is more than some of us have.

When I say 'living off the land' I do not mean any kind of business venture selling home-grown produce. In fact, apart from my online teaching I have zero interest in any business venture nowadays - our time on Earth is limited and I'm a little concerned about my expire date I'd rather relax and grow some food to eat. Besides, it would not be fair nor probably legal for me to sit hawking my veggies in Luang Prabang morning market.

I've been teaching online today from my new location - all is good. No air-con out the back and no need for one

A glimpse of the wildlife in front of my house...

A large adult elephant munching on its evening meal!

To be truthful, I'm not THAT deep in the rain-forest Luang Prabang Elephant Camp is opposite my house, so I can see and hear the elephants (they are not too noisy, just the occasional trumpet).

Btw, does anybody remember the thread linked to the picture below? It was perhaps my best (and only good) thread ever. It traumatised Davis...

What's that Kaiser Chiefs line.... if it wasn't for chip fat they'd be frozen, trying to borrow a pound to buy a condom.

This!! I am never disappointed with the turn of events. Pissed off sometimes (such as with my coughing for the past 22 years). But at least on my deathbed I can look back on all the good and bad and weird events in my life and think "Beats living in Leicester all your life..."

I have spent the morning cleaning tookay and gecko shit off the floor in my new house (which has stood empty for a fair amount of time). I need to organise some workers to lay a concrete path from the road to the house for my motorbike so that it/I don't get covered in mud from the garden (rainy season will be here soon.)

We (on TD) enjoy watching/ reading about your adventures & mishaps, Simon. (well, except for a few, and you know who they are, lol)

Re: workers, if you don't know any, for sure your landlord will know people who'll be willing to work for you for a few days (yard cleaning, cement laying, etc). If not, then you could probably borrow Mendip's "gardener" - don't know what his fee will be, though.

Speaking of fees, what's the minimum daily wage for laborers there? Here in PH, it's around 10 usd if in Metro Manila (P500+), then ~8 usd (P400) in my province (regions surrounding Manila), then ~7 usd (~P350) in Visayas & Mindanao - in the more rural areas.

Post pics of the construction/ improvements on the property or maybe make a new thread - bcos TD ppl love a construction thread & they're nosy.
