Russia went from being 2nd strongest army in the world to being the 2nd strongest in Ukraine
The best thing that happened since sliced bread, in my childhood, was Central Heating and double glazing. The day we moved from a coal fired living room, where you got dressed in bed because Jack Frost was staring out you through the window, where you waited for your Mum to light the fire and you had t remove the skin from your coffee in the morning...it was just Heaven! First central heated house we had was newly built and had oil fired heating. Anyone that suffered coal fired houses will know what I mean.
Three pints of milk a day on the doorstep...(we had plain silvertop)
...and you knew you were up north when they delivered this...
Possibly the most disgusting milk I've ever had the displeasure of having to drink. Even worse than September milk locally after the cows had been on the peas.
Sweet memories
some like non alchoholic sold in 60s pubs in Kent Bracer and Cochraness Apflesaft and Apricot juices I couldnt locate photos

Thinking of beer, can you still get a Courage Light&Bitter?
What about the lunchtime milds?
I vaguely recall you could get 4 pints of bitter and 2 packs of Walkers crisps and still get change from a pound when I first frequented the bars. That was in the public bar, it cost extra if you were in the lounge in those days.
Drank this a few times when the corner shop had run out of Buckfast.
Strange stuff.
My Dad drank McEwan's Export.
"A pint o' Heavy, Moira, Irn-bru and Scampy Fries for the loon"
Lang may yer lum reek...
Top left.Have owned three and a V4
Bottom right. Delta Integrale. Could be on the list of best ever cars.
Better to think inside the pub, than outside the box?
I apologize if any offence was caused. unless it was intended.
You people, you think I know feck nothing; I tell you: I know feck all
Those who cannot change their mind, cannot change anything.
Recall pre ring pull some awful canned beers like
Long John Skol and Harp and the de rigeur "Party Seven" if you were lucky there would be cheese footballs and girls to take away the taste

Red Barrel
Double Diamond and many inferior ales were the norm until CAMRA the campaign for real Ale gradually transformed ales in UK
Most pubs and clubs in cities were tied houses and in poor areas had about 4 taps one Guinness one lager a bitter and a mild
The top shelf was decorated with capo di Monte , ghastly souvenirs or hunting prints with a bottle each of Whiskey Port Brandy Vodka Gin and Advocat
Beer Mats were deemed necessary and like ubiquitous ashtrays covered in slogans to consume more
British Wines and QC sherry were eagerly consumed in the era of black white TV her indoors and possibly 2 TV stations
As 60s teenagers of course we hit the streets dance venues , house parties when someone's parents went away and the flicks
British Cocktails were certany not sex on the beach, Jagerbombs nor Mojitos
Standard Was Gin with Italian Vermouth a powerful bang
Pink Gin
Scotch with often Candian Dry Ginger
Typical Ladies drinks
Grannies liked Milk Stouts, Gin and Orange, poss Drambuie or bendictine pre aileys era
Port and Lemon
Rum and Peppemrint
Young Ladies drank halves or fruit by products that enriched Shepton Mallet Babycham (bubbly weak cider type piss in tiny bottles).
Cherry B , like Spy and equally vile
Many men couldn't decide what beer the liked so bottled light Ales IPA styles were self mixed with Mild or Bitter even Stout, Light and bitter common in Kent
"Wines " were sold at room temp from Optics like Hirondelle and Lambrusco were the cheap "leg openers " of the era
Proper French wines were sold in vintners but seldom seen in bars, vermouth the nearest to exotic or an Eggflip Advocaat with a glace not even maraschino cherry
By 70s foreign travel esp Spain Italy by coach brought pasta paella cheap Wines to the seldom toiling masses and Asian food arrived everywhere thank god.
By today's standards it wasn't that good nor healthy but compared to the Spotted Dick, Jam Roly Poly and steamed cabbage of school dinners and local cafes a vindaloo , few poppoduns or Menu 69
Prawn Crackers, Beef in Oyster Some Chicken Chow Mein or Sweet Sour Prawn Ball seemed a taste of heaven
Tastier food like Wiener Schnitzl Veal Parmagiana Spag Bol arrived in pubs and endless layers of Lasagne a noticeable upgrade from Tripe and Onions, Faggots and Peas or Eels with liquor and mash (the liquor, was a UFO luminous Green sauce still seen at Manzl's)

Something I do miss is the butcher, baker, fish and library rounds around the village in England. Each a different day of the week and saved mothers having to drive to the shops. Good for the old folks too. Some milkman took over the role but now they've gone too.
Also the fish sales in the pubs once or twice a week.
^ Thanks, didn't know, but McEwan's Export brings back some great memories. It was the beer of choice on in the BR Buffet cars as we travelled to base back in the 70's. I also used to have to travel from Cornwall up to Kinloss in those days, could get a train up to Glasgow and then switch stations for the ride up to Inverness. It wasn't long before we switched to travelling by air with "Dan Dare" on a BAC 1-11 to Inverness airport.
Marston's Pedigree, that and Theakston's Old Peculiar were the choice draught beers in those days. Then Timothy Taylor Landlord from Keighly did the rounds with CAMRA as well as Gales HSB. But when you were on the train, nothing beat RedX.
Top Shelf in my house, Troy.

Pass times, anyone who knows Japan will have heard the steel balls bouncing around the Pachinko parlours
Bar skittles and bar billiards were popular in small pubs, quite skilful esp after a cocktail or 3 !!
