    Great photo.
Malard-Larkins Wilderness in Northern Idaho. We were doing some restoration on a historic fire lookout cabin and had about 20 mountain goats around the peak that kept a close eye on us.

Well, this is a bit of a shock to the system.

The only time it stops raining in Bergen is when it wants to start snowing...

In Schiphol everyone was masked up, social distancing signs everywhere, etc etc but at Bergen not a mask to be seen, not a single sign about social distancing. The difference is amazing... the Norwegians have embraced living with Covid.

It's a joke apparently but I think you have to be Norwegian to get it.

Nothing special - a photo of La Croisette shopping centre in Mauritius. I was having a coffee while waiting for the supermarket to open. The big glass 'funnel' is simply the roof over the escalators that go down to the underground car park... (Note the lack of people - Mauritius has a population density of 626 pax per square km, about 4 times greater than Thailand and ranked as the 10th most population-dense country in the world. But I have no clue where they are all hiding because nowhere ever seems busy!).

    Yes...41 more days...

And here ya go...it's art apparently. I've never been that artistic.

It's an art piece. "I wanted to make a piece that said something about the feeling of melancholy in being a modern human, constantly traveling, from airport to airport, and always feeling relaxed. The piece is both existentialist and poetic. It's serious and humouristic at the same time. I think Bergen is a city that tolerates self-irony. Everyone can put their own meaning into the questionmark, there's no wrong answer."

And you thought it was just a question mark!

This reminds me of why I failed my English Literature exam - miserably! We read and analysed Joseph Conrad's Nostromo. My teacher kept telling me that every sentence had a hidden meaning. I thought "No it doesn't. When he says something like 'the man looked at me'. he means just that and nothing else...".

I think my mind is too scientific and logical to deal with arty-farty concepts.

Actually, I've got a metal detector Looper and you've just reminded me that I've not used it in a long time.

I'll have to go detecting next time I get home.

I'll just have to take your word for that, Looper.

The last 10 weeks in Isaan are already a distant memory. We start work tomorrow and all the signs are it's going to be a very busy year...

There's a few vessels alongside at the moment due to the bad weather and that green one looked familiar...

That was the vessel I worked on for a different company up in the Barents Sea when I did my first work thread a couple of years ago. It's a small world.

And I've just discovered that we'll be heading up to the Barents Sea in a couple of weeks time... not a great destination in March.

Not yet it won’t be. Northern winters last till May. Partially because their seasons start and finish on the 22nd of the month rather than the 1st…it’s well confusing for us sensible Aussies. It’ll be icey.

In my early years living in Chiang Mai, I spent a lot of time mountain biking on the hill tribe trails outside of the city. I ran into this Hmong dude who told me he built this flintlock rifle when he was 15. I first ran into him as he was headed out to to do some grouse hunting with his decoy rooster on his belt. Kept running into him for 5 years in the wildest places. That long rifle of his is epic.

My experience of Norwegian winters, especially inside the arctic circle, is that the cold there is from a much drier atmosphere. Hence the Norwegian -30 or -40c is more bearable than the UK bone chilling damp cold of -10c. Living under canvas, a morning snow bath was as good a shower as we could get. Very quick but highly refreshing.
