A New Zealand internet survey polled 12,000 members on the three occupations they respected most and three they respected least.
Least respected:
* Politician
* Lawyer
* Real estate agent
* MP
* Journalist
* Advertising executive
* Car dealer
* Company director
* Accountant
Most respected:
* Doctors
* Nurse
* Teacher
* Firefighter
* Ambulance driver
* Soldier
* Scientist
* Police officer
* Caregiver
Traffic wardens, bar staff, waitresses, call centre staff, cleaners and roadsweepers were neither loathed or loved.
In a New Zealand survey, The National Business Review found that prostitutes had the worst job but commanded more respect than politicians.
I'd rather not debate the validity of the poll on this thread, assume it's solid.
