Man, Bacon is outstanding. Good Hickory smoked, thick sliced. All you guys out there passing up on good tasting foods because some report says something and you hope you will live a few years longer by not eating it. Silly stuff. Have a fat 200 day aged Ribeye steak off the grill. Add crumbled bacon on your salad. knock back a good Whiskey afterwards.
I just had a quite delicious BLT sammy the other day.![]()
I guess it wouldn't induce such rile if the heading was 'Eating processed meats increases risk of dementia'.Eating processed meats such as bacon
^good thought.
Although, we may have to test run that

Vegetarianism causes dementia.
Demented patients are attracted to Veganism.
Lettuces are trained killers in disguise.....

Exactly.
Every country has variations of the phrase, "processed meat". Some eat a high % others do not.
Fast food, grubdump, supermarket packaged complete meals, street food ....
Meat consumption and risk of incident dementia: cohort study of 493,888 UK Biobank participants
The study suggests:
"Results
Among 493,888 participants included, 2896 incident cases of all-cause dementia, 1006 cases of AD, and 490 cases of VD were identified, with mean ± SD follow-up of 8 ± 1.1 y.
Each additional 25 g/day intake of processed meat was associated with increased risks of incident all-cause dementia (HR: 1.44; 95% CI: 1.24, 1.67; P-trend < 0.001) and AD (HR: 1.52; 95% CI: 1.18, 1.96; P-trend = 0.001).
In contrast, a 50-g/d increment in unprocessed red meat intake was associated with reduced risks of all-cause dementia (HR: 0.81; 95% CI: 0.69, 0.95; P-trend = 0.011) and AD (HR: 0.70; 95% CI: 0.53, 0.92; P-trend = 0.009). The linear trend was not significant for unprocessed poultry and total meat. Regarding incident VD, there were no statistically significant linear trends identified, although for processed meat, higher consumption categories were associated with increased risks.
The APOE ε4 allele increased dementia risk by 3 to 6 times but did not modify the associations with diet significantly.
Conclusion
These findings highlight processed-meat consumption as a potential risk factor for incident dementia, independent of the APOE ε4 allele."

Solution:
Reduce intake of "processed meat".
Whatever you decide that is. Personally my intake of processed "meat" definition is:
Salami
Bacon
Ham
Smoked fish
Anchovies in olive oil,
My intake of unprocessed "meat" is:
Chicken breast
Pork tenderloin and spare rib
Beef steak
Fresh fish
One also should review what "feeds", processed and natural, the sources eat along with the various spices/powders/sauces which are added during the cooking.
Are cheeses considered to be "processed"?

A tray full of GOLD is not worth a moment in time.
I believe it's put down to the sodium nitrite used in the curing process.
That could be a reference to either Karen or xanax... Which underscores the point.
I eat all of that (sans the anchovies).....in moderation of course but will never stop. One thing that they never say or recommend is Moderation. They just post results and then say some stupid nonsense to some how validate their findings and like most of the information nowadays they sell fear coupled with some XXX university in XXX country did a study of 1200 people and the this is what the results show. It is statistically insignificant and quite frankly the study was a complete waste of time.
In many ways, everything we eat is processed to some degree or another unless you walk out, kill that pig and then go to your garden and pick those veggies. However the question then is, what did you feed your pig?
As for Vegetarians...to each their own. I know quite a few committed Vegetarians. Most I cannot be around because you can't go anywhere with them as they order a meal and they have a list of shit they will not eat and its embarrassing to watch that poor waiter have to write it all down knowing that something will be wrong when it hits the table.
So just offer them an apple.....can't go wrong with that!...and its embarrassing to watch that poor waiter have to write it all down knowing that something will be wrong when it hits the table.
Er, the "scientists" quoted in the OP as reported in the Septic journal are in fact a Leeds university cohort under the guidance of a professor who herself stated they are not positing a finding but were simply laying the ground for a hypothesis.
Also, of those in the study group who consumed sodium nitrate in their diet, in the form of processed meats etc, and were later diagnosed as suffering from dementia, most, if not all, were lower class ditch-digging lumpen oiks who smoked and drank to excess. Essentially, the bedrock of the lower end of Western society which are also addicted to carbohydrates and lumps of fat in fast food regimes.
Quite why they picked on one rasher of bacon as a cause of dementia is a mystery. Really, it would have been more enlightening and accurate if they were to say that if you voted to Brexit or for Trump then the odds are that you will be bouncing off the walls in later life if not already.
