Are you OK, Texpat? I mean, I get bad tress days, but..

True, Rigs, they come for the weather and to get away from high taxes and to be big man maybe. My most hated ranters were the dorkfaces who banned MY dogs (who were cleaner, tick/flea-free and more polite than most of the punters) from THEIR open-air pubs. OK, no dogs, no Jettie. Lousy conversation there anyway. Time-share sales thugs, geeks with BGs and a straggling of the unwashed masses.

i have been "attacked" many times for generalising in a negative manner, but nobody ever objects to anybody generalising positively.
perhaps i should try not to generalise, but, surely if so many people find the same thing to comment negatively about, therey must have been given reason to do so.
sure, there are exceptions to every rule, and when we generalise, we talk about a majority, so the exceptions do not count. nobody would generalise if they were talking about a minority.
if the stereotype did not exist, there would be no reason to generalise, so
go ahead and generalise- it is perfectly healthy.
    cheers
Take your point, but I genuinely don't feel any of the poll options fit all or even the majority of Thai people. I don't feel qualified to judge a whole race on what might be my misconceptions or prejudices...

...learn to choose my friends wisely.

I hate "Thais are a pack of cun.ts" types who hang around Nana and Roi Et with their mail order whore, skin head football thug mates and large acircle of dependent "uncles" and "cousins" and "friends" trash is trash everywhere in the world.
They champion falsehood, support the butcher against the victim, the oppressor against the innocent child. May God mete them the punishment they deserve

I have been living what might be classed by some as a 'shallow existance' in Pattaya for the last 2 and half years... I work offshore and it suits my lifestyle but I have always treated the Thais with respect..

On the longer term, if I start thinking about a proper relationship or investing some money in property I'm not sure how much I could trust the Thais...

    Still learning every day...

What it boils down too is, choose your friends and associates wisely. In the event that you dont have a choice weather to or not to associate yourself with another person in Thailand because of business or responsibilities, wheather they be thai or foreign dont trust them a single bit.

It seems when in Thailand many of the foreigners take on the traits of the locals and will screw you as soon as they get the chance.

I truly saddens me to not be able to trust people in general, I suppose i was a fool for ever doing so, but it has sharpened my skills on judgment of character and now i know as far as Thais go and for how ever long you have known them you can never give them 100% of your trust because they are two faced back stabbing people.

Even Thais will admit this themselves...

If you havent yet realized this than you have either been lucky or havent had much experience dealing directly with Thai people.

Remember that Thais dont only screw foreigners over they also screw each other just as regularly .

All this being said, I love Thailand because of its simplicity and ease of lifestyle, and while these things bother me just a bit, I know TIT and dont let it get under my skin. If you do, you shouldnt be here.

Well, with a published National average of around 84-86 (functional moron level), what do you expect?

They really are a very thick bunch - even their so-called top, elite scientists can't punch their way out of a wet paper bag, in academic terms - way, way too passive.

^ Against world norms, where the nominal value is 100. For instance European countries are nominally often closer to 110, or higher. The exact figures can be dragged up somewhere on the internet - the figures I alluded to are published annually by the Thai Government - followed by a beating of their collective chests for a few days.

Unfortunately I agree with this observation, but I wish it weren't so. My wife who is Thai, also agrees with this, and is quite put off by it. Of course we ignore it, after all, we have to make the best out of life.

    It is indeed.
The foreigners in Thailand who came here for cheap sex and stay for it get what they deserve. And the poll is a reflection of it...

Just 'cos a bod comes here for cheap Sex doesn't make him a bad person.

And he is still contributing to the improvement of the lives of Thai people.

Is he any worse than those who come for Cheap Booze? Or Cigarettes or anything else they spend their money on?

    Come oooooooon guys.

The pole is not a reflection of it. I never came here for anything cheap or anything that had do with sex. I had an opportunity to move here with family before i knew anything about it and go to school here... As the years go by I have no choice but to trust less and less..

    OK, I'll rephrase it.
The results of the poll are a reflection of it.

I would not click on "I trust them" for any question based on such a general term as nationality.

Have you learned to trust people with blue eyes or rather to distrust them?
    Now, be honest.

It is not stupid, it is just not neutral.
The poll questions are biased towards negativity about Thais.
