.... learn not to generalise & to treat everyone, whatever nationality, as an individual & judge them on their own personal traits, rather than stereotype them.

It depends what side I get out of bed. Sometimes I think they are endearing & other times I hate them all.

Sorry, none of the options apply to me.
I'd say I have a much more realistic image of Thai people now, and can distinguish better between cultural and personal traits.
Some of the enthusiasm has waned over time, as one would expect with increasing familiarity.

That pretty much sums it up for me too. Although hate is a tad strong, I just get annoyed every now and then... Usually whilst driving now that I think about it.

I never did and never will understand their thinking..

I have come to realize that in general they think we are strangers in their country and the only reason why they let us stay here is because they can drain us for the money we have while we are here..(Profit from us)

If they couldnt profit, quite a bit, from us being here they wouldnt have a second thought of getting rid of all of us in a second..

Being here for years i never thought of most of these issues as it didnt really matter to me.. But now building and running a business here, and getting exposed to many other parts of thai culture I end up trusting them less and less everyday, and its got to be that way.

If i trust them, I get screwed. If i give them a chance or the benefit of the doubt, i get screwed.

I wish it wasnt that way but unfortunately I have to accept that it is..

I cant vote as well, the life of a farang in Thailand depends on his attitude towards the people and there way of life, it depends on what he is doing here, own business, retired, employed,or a drunken piss-head, it all adds to how you see the country.
This is about to turn into a long post, so I will quit now.

i have been "attacked" many times for generalising in a negative manner, but nobody ever objects to anybody generalising positively.
perhaps i should try not to generalise, but, surely if so many people find the same thing to comment negatively about, therey must have been given reason to do so.
sure, there are exceptions to every rule, and when we generalise, we talk about a majority, so the exceptions do not count. nobody would generalise if they were talking about a minority.
if the stereotype did not exist, there would be no reason to generalise, so
go ahead and generalise- it is perfectly healthy.
    cheers

It wasnt that I was living in fear of getting screwed, rather that i was not living with the fear, giving trust and then getting screwed.

Well I have learned my lessons, have stop trusting, and now dont have to worry about getting screwed,

Not really, it's the lazy man's path. It just isn't so irritating when it's positive generalisations, I usually leave the fools to it.

Stereotypes are just that - stereotypes.

Same everywhere. Some good, nice, bad, and evil. But, I always found that in extreme cases, Thais stuck together against farang, even if they hated each other. I disliked farang who living in Thailand who wanted everything to be like it was at home. They caused alot of disarmony.

One wonders what they came here for in the first place?
Maybe they don't fit in 'at home' either.

I distance myself from them. So much of what they does irritates me, I find I'm happier if I'm not around them. I generally think they're thick as hell.

If someone knocks on the door, I get my wife. When cupboards are bare, send wife shopping. Phone rings, I don't answer it, wife will get it.

I sometimes go out to drink with falang friends.
