I'm sure we've all had experiences with mainland Chinese tourists, and I'm equally sure they weren't particularly nice experiences.
After spending over a week in Sihanoukville recently consulting for a China-owned hotel/casino I simply couldn't believe some of the things I saw . . . and heard (not as in understanding, rather in volume).
It got quite personal a few months back at a very nice 5-star in Singapore . . . 11pm and my daughters were asleep in the room next door when commotion erupted from outside . . . just shouting, door slamming etc etc etc . . . My wife got up and asked them to please be quiet as it was late (yes, she speaks Mandarin, being Malaysian/Singaporean Chinese) . . . and was met with shouting and lovely things like:
"It is our turn to be rich, we own Asia"
"It isn't late for us, go fuck your white husband"
and so on and so on . . .
They had actually left their doors open and were shouting to one another from inside their rooms . . . animals. Anyway, my wife called security but it took them half an hour to get these morons to shut up. The hotel did apologise for placing us on a floor 'secured' for mainland groups.
Being the insecure little man that I am I proceeded to phone them all several times at five a.m and knocked on their doors quite loudly as we were leaving to catch another flight.
Then I saw this video by chance . . . and remember . . . there are close to 1.4 billion of them ... 1.400.000.000 . . . and not all of them are like this. Our new neighbours here in NZ are Mainlanders from Shanghai and are relatively quiet, play golf, send their kids to school and are pleasant.
Any experiences you've had that are worth mentioning?
(Yes, I know others can be bad tourists as well, but this is a focus on mainland Chinese)
