A lot of the resorts are great and often filled with Thai families who certainly are not going around the whoring areas. Unless you are looking for a bit of sleaze, then there is no real reason to venture into the sleazy places.

As for fat birds, well, they are a response to the increasing Gupta tourist trade and the slick marketing on the Murkins that fat ugly birds are called "thick".

No I couldn't after reading this in Post #183 by Headworx.

"No let's agree that you only know Central / South Pattaya and have never been to where locals who aren't interested in the sex scene go. Out if interest, how many Jomtien and Darkside pubs have you ever been to?. Can you name a dozen or so for me that you know well, just to prove I'm not debating a topic that one of us knows fuck all about."

I n my interpretation the whore scene and the Darkside are 2 different places.

^But only a fraction of the Brightside.

Lots of hookers pretty much anywhere in Thailand though, the Thai scene makes the Farang scene seem insignificant.

Introducing a more serious note, the entrance to Soi Country Club from Sukhumwit was a nightmare and it was a rarity for there not to be a fatal motorbike accident at weekends. Nerves of steel were required and it felt as though one was going through bandit country to reach the Dark Side and it was a great relief to trundle down the road over the railway line in one piece. I lived in a side road behind some shops. There was a gorgeous pool close by and we normally had it to ourselves in daytime. A few topless Russian prostitutes seemed to be the only other customers.

Totally different world to the rest of Pattaya and it was lovely. The two principal features on the road to Maprachan were the Butterfly Bar and the Chinese cemetery.

^Jeez how that road has changed. When I first moved here we'd drive down SSCC at 80 kph on the way to golf in the mornings, the danger was from Elephants appearing out of nowhere around the long ago relocated Elephant farm. Then coming home, on the left side corner of the intersection of SSCC and Sukhumvit there was a lady with a fried chicken stand (the only one cut available was the leg and thigh still joined together). Can't remember the price, something stupid like 15 Baht, but can remember them being the best fried chicken I've ever had to this day.

It was a very special place to live and we were lucky to have experienced it as it was.

and the reservoir itself. Lived on the lake there myself. Great place to live. I left just prior to the road extension and think I was lucky.

however ti link it back to the thread, the Dark Side certainly does have a high percentage of dog like Thai women. Most of them you wouldn't really want to bang

I just cannot understand why people comment on matters when they are totally ignorant of the facts. To criticise anything in such circumstances is very foolish. I loved my stay in Pattaya. I was last there in November 2017 and I realise that things have changed a lot. They say "never go back" and perhaps I should not have. It is nice to see that others enjoyed it too.

Facts????. Just because one lives or lived there does not mean that all the shit that is there simply goes away. You make it seem like anyone that happens to go in it or near it for a short period of time are ignorant to the area. Ya know smart people can see it a few times and quickly know what it is generally like and always will be. Twist it any way you want.

That said, I am sure after my few days driving around outside the perimeter of the hell hole looking at places that there are some pockets where if you never left it and had to venture into "town", life could be OK. But if you ever want to venture out and about it all quickly becomes glaringly obvious. I've seen enough of the area and its not a place I would want to live or stay. There are far better places and less riff raff, scams, dirty beaches, relentless tourists, congestion, filth, garbage, etc, But hey man.....whatever works, I am not judging you.

Lets be clear, I am talking about Pattaya, Not Chon Buri as a whole. Chon Buri is a huge province with lots of very nice areas.

In Pattaya, my wife and saw absolutely nothing that we had interest in. There were some nice neighborhoods tucked away in random areas with very nice homes. But a drive into the area was a joke and then all the scum bags roll out and fill the streets and all those bars and pubs.

I'd have to live at bare minimum on the other side of Hwy 3 but commute would be terrible as that appears to be a major road.

Saw a few nice areas out by Hwy 36 on Hwy 7 back towards BKK. Commute better for work but then hell back into the other areas.

Reality is that there wasn't anything that grabbed my eye. We clocked some 200kms over 3 days in the area. I do not need any of those world class restaurants or other things that many claim Pattaya City and the area offers. I am quite happy with a good Makro, Topps and my local market to live on as my wife and I cook both Thai and other international meals. As for nightlife, bars here in Thailand never interested me. When I first arrived here some 15 years ago I hit up many while living in BKK. They were alright but the crowd wasn't my type and the drinks are shit and I really do not care for beer. The last few bars I went to it was packed with old guys and young Thai girls which is not my style and it just seems creepy. I have always preferred diversity and its actually one of the things I miss about the states. Even my wife says the same. We would go out to a social club after dinner and it was a mix of all ages, drinks were excellent and the music was always good. We go to a social club here and i bet 9 out of 10 guys are wondering what bar I met my wife in because I suspect most have a limited scope on Thailand because Pattaya is not really a representation of Thailand. Its a tourist city and with that comes all the crap associated with it.

Anyway, it does not matter. I passed on the employment offer and will stay away and likely never drop by the place again. I will say though that the UPattaya hotel in Jomtien was a nice place.

    Actually, I like Patters.

Different parts of me like different aspects.

As a Family man, there is enough 'Family stuff' for a 3 day holiday.

I took my older sister there a few years back and she liked the place.
That said, I had a friend who lived on the darkside (just over the railway line) and we stayed with her.

    ---

As a bloke, it's great fun for a few days. Best massage I've had there.

Sit on Beach Road and watch the entertainment walk by.

Walking Street isn't what it used to be, but nothing stays the same for every.

Beaches are shite, but I don't go to Pattaya to swim.

Others have said the fine dining is fine. Golf courses are swinging.
But I don't partake of either.

The working girls and LB's are a 'larf.

I quite like propping myself up in a Bar @ night and catching a band and a few beers.

    ---

Horses for Courses and all that.
Someone is sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago ...

I've been using that stretch of Rd for over 20 years and never seen an accident let alone it being a nightmare.

Used it 6 times today going back and forwards from Sukhumvit and no dead bodies to be seen.

Locals know better than to fuck around when you are on patrol LT.

I must say I've never seen or heard about an accident there either.

The state of the road with the drains right down the centre does not allow you to drive fast enough to build up much speed and then you hit the railway crossing.

Probably the safest stretch of Rd in Thailand.
