Price has gone up since you last used it. 900 baht now. Crikey, that's almost what I get for a 50 minute period at school. Those dolly birds must be good!

I wouldn't be fooking about with the airport link at rush hour, especially with bags. Take a taxi and be prepared for a probable two hour ride. In at five, out of the airport at 6, gets you to DM by 8, no problem.....we should start a poll on time and cost of your taxi.

    I'm going for 1:47 / 342 baht.
Good post. Yes, that's what I'll do. Don't want nose bleed spatter from my free driver, nor do I want a drunk driver.
Since I have no idea....I'll stick close to you; 1:55/ 400 baht.

Way more hassle and highly unlikely to save you much time.

If you have no checked baggage that would be a possibility, but even then the time saved would be minimal outside of rush hour.

I did this switch about 20 times in five years...then fucked dm off and took bangkok air.

Now vietjet do swampy to CM for 2,000 baht plus change, so dm is redundant on both the convenience and cost fronts.

Bit late to the party, but quick question.

Why didn't you get a Thai Smile flight? Only around 500 baht more for a single internal and fly from Swampy.

    --EDIT--

Last Thai Smile flight to Hat Yai is 16:20

Nah, was for maanaam. Was wondering why he was hop footing it to DM whilst landing at Swampy for an internal flight.

Personally, after a 15hr flight, I would have landed and got half decent digs near Swampy and enjoyed a few bevvies before resting up and continuing on my adventure the next day.

Very frugal mate. The escorted service is a must at swampy these days. Why get frazzled queuing up behind thick Chinks and Koreans in the immi line?
Stump up the cash and go in a bit of style, then get the metered taxi from level 2.

This is the way to go if you have 40kg of bags. It’s as smooth as Lulu and as smart as Dilly.
The taxi drivers are usually pretty good, even if the fares have gone up recently, it’s a no brainer.

Whenever I need a taxi from either airport, I go to the top level (departures) and go outside where the taxis are letting people off.
They are very glad to grab a quick fare and will even (most of the time) use the meter. Their alternative is to go get in line.
Works every time. But you must be quick as the security guys don't like to see this done.

    I'm definitely getting a taxi.
This escort service, though, @ 900 B: I land at 4:40. Next plane to catch from DM is at 9, so I need to be at DM 8:20 at the latest. If the taxi trip takes 2 hours (worst case scenario I read above), I've got to take the taxi by 6:20 at swampy.
So, 4:40 land...is it likely to take over an hour and a half to get through immigration?

Take 3 motorcycle taxis from Swampy to the nearest highway, tell them you're going for a soda and bolt.

When you stealthily emerge upon pavement, hail the trashiest 3 wheeled samlor (••cheaper if oxen driven) you can find and express an interest in gems to the driver and first 10 proprietors you meet.

    Buy new bags.

Have the bag lady call (with a telephone) a taxi.
Kick the tires after it arrives. Refuse and demand a larger auto.
Load the family-sized beast with your newly minted luggage.

Aim the compass at don mieang and explain that you're late, you're the pilot and you give him permission to exceed the speed limit.
"It's,...errr an emergency. Somebody's dying or something."

Take multiple stilted, worthless last minute moving pictures from the back and side windows..

Stop outside the perimter and take a boat.

I don't think that's allowed now. I mean it never was, but now it really isn't. Or maybe it is. TIT

Again, worst case scenario, I have known immigration take over an hour to process the queue.
Go fast track and use the official Taxi rank on level 2. Job jobbed.

Or you could end up with your flight landing late, waiting ages for your bags, get stuck in an immi queue, then find your taxi snarled up in traffic.
TBF that journey from swampy to DM has never taken me more than 40 minutes, but why risk it?
    Good luck with it mate.

The last time I arrived at Swampy Bum at around noon it took nearly an hour to get through immi. My mate from work arrived the next day, also around noon, and it took him around ten minutes. It's luck of the draw I suppose.

The day you arrive makes a difference too, of course.

I arrived on a Monday at 6am ten days ago and it was fine.

    Took about 15 minutes.

Saturday and Sunday morning would probably have been much busier.

Its more to do with time of day, weather and arrivals. If you get a few wide body jets landing in succession, you are fooked.

Yeah, that was considered and if there hadn't been a Thai Lion Air (Did I say Smile?...meant Lion) flight at 9 that's what I would have done. Besides, if I was going to have an overnight stay, I would have gone my usual AKL-SIN, SIN-HDY, with a night in Singapore.
