Formula 1: 'Grid girls' will not be used at races this season

Is this upholding woman's rights and dignity?

A PC World gone mad again?

60% of respondents to a BBC Sport vote in December said 'grid girls' should be part of Formula 1

'Grid girls' will no longer be used by Formula 1 from the start of the 2018 World Championship season.

But who are the 'Grid Girls'?

    Some internet research reveals ...

Back to the BBC article ...

Sean Bratches, managing director of commercial operations, said the change would be made "so as to be more in tune with our
    vision for this great sport".

F1 managing director of motorsports Ross Brawn told BBC Radio 5 live in December that the use of female promotional models
    was "under review".

The new F1 season begins on 25 March.

"While the practice of employing grid girls has been a staple of Formula 1 grands prix for decades, we feel this custom does not
resonate with our brand values and clearly is at odds with modern day societal norms," Bratches added.

What are the girls whose job was taken away saying?

Furious Formula 1 promo girls who were fired from their jobs say they've 'lost important income because feminists think they know best'

    • Formula 1 has banned grid girls from the sport.
    • The women, now unemployed, are taking one final stand on social media.
    • A five-time F1 grid girl says the ban is "political correctness gone mad."
    • A stunt driver and former grid girl added that "a lot of women have lost their jobs because feminists think they know best."

Formula 1 grid girls have been told to leave motor sports, but they're making one last stand on social media.

Tough for the girls/women, who enjoy the experience of meeting the rich and famous, the stars of the sport and robbing them of the opportunity to cash in while they are great looking.
Definitely a win for fugly types who want to piss on everyone's chips. Losers.

Nothing wrong with eye candy, or consensual groping, or full blown paid sex (for pc purposes: between sane consenting adults).

Signs of a society in decay, when people are too scared to speak their mind.

One should read some of the comments from the grid girls themselves.

Precis? Victims of feminism where women want equality, don't want to be objectified etc. But these grid girls who want to be free to do the job they enjoy have been told by men that they can't do it anymore. As the men bowed to social media etc. to advance the plight of repressed women. Come back Bernie, all is forgiven.

Just utter nonsense and BS. Some women enjoy emphasizing there sexuality and flaunting what they have been born with. Generally the ones who are against it weren't born with anything worth flaunting.

On the other hand the grid girls although sponsored by Hieneken or Emirates or...might have been provided free of charge by the local track promoter. F1 now wants to monetize the grid girls and charge the sponsors themselves

One of these 'grid girls' is my sisters daughter, ie niece- she's a model. She's horrified by the decision, and is letting everyone know exactly how she feels on Facebook. Apart from costing her several thousand dollars annually on Australian races such as the Clipsal 500 & Melbourne GP, it will also cost her some lavish, all expenses paid junkets to the ME, and- according to her at least- damage the sport. Expect iconic events such as the Superbowl to be next in the firing line from the killjoy brigade.

I think the men can take a back seat in this dog fight- let the women go at it, Fuglies vs wannabe Models.

Articles of this type is not written by anyone who knows what F1 really is and is simply someone trying to make us think he does.

    From the article:

a stunning lack of competition and the resulting predictability of race standings.
There is a huge amount of competition. Has the author ever tried to build an F1 car. There are 10 teams hugely competing to build the best one. As a result and interpretation of the rules by very clever people the best car always wins. Others then try harder to technologically catch up. Some do , some don't.

increasingly disparate prize purse that sees winning teams scoop up large sums while struggling teams become anemic; Top-performing teams get massive pay days, while backmarkers and struggling manufacturers are left with scraps
F1 is just like any other form of financial motor racing. Back in the day a couple of mates and I used to race in BRISCA F2 stock car racing. Guess what? Just like F1 a driver/team get "start money" for participating. This goes a way to paying for their travelling etc to get to the track.
Then the driver/team gets "place money" for being on the podium, just like F1. So drivers/teams who are clever and can build a competitive car and can win occasionally get more money than drivers who simply show up but are either no good, cannot build a good car or don't invest enough in their equipment. It costs so some if not most try to get sponsorship from local businesses. Not quite F1 but the principle is the same.
Most drivers back then did it for enjoyment but there were a few who made a living doing it during the season.
The amount are different but the concept is the same.
In this case the author comes from a generation of of people who got medals for participating. So he thinks every F1 team should get the same? Well surprise for "start money" they do about $45m. But if they don't perform they don't get more.. It is real life not grade school sports day.
If $45m is not enough then they need sponsors.

But this has come at the expense of one of Formula One’s best-known qualities: noise.
Current F1 cars at the track are plenty loud enough. But the sound they make does not have an unusual frequency that transmits well on TV. It is not the level of sound that is missing simply the frequency. Plus noise is energy so if the cars are trying to harvest energy from the exhaust...

People like the author want instant gratification. They want to turn on the TV once very two weeks or stream for free and watch something they have little understanding of.

True racing fans watch MotoGP for one reason, Speedway for another, World rally-cross for another and F1 on a Sunday for another.

I'm not sure why the article says, this cut is a feminist problem when it is probably men in charge of the decision to cut these girls. Were the feminist ladies protesting to get rid of these 'grid girls' from racing? Maybe there is another reason, and not necessarily because of feminists. Seems to be jumping the gun when it was a decision by probably male persons.

"While the practice of employing grid girls has been a staple of Formula 1 grands prix for decades, we feel this custom does not resonate with our brand values and clearly is at odds with modern day societal norms," Bratches added. "

Too bad these girls were cut from their jobs. I don't see why things have to change and not sure what the racings brand values actually are. Modern day societal norms? lol....... have they looked at the shit music and videos coming out these days.

Good post, but ironically this part could have come straight from an article on why F1 has lost its appeal for many.

Few people consider the race for better technology to be a spectator sport. As for the dolly birds, I find the fixed grins and over made-up faces about as arousing as shop dummies, personally.

Wonen playing a meaningful role 'behind the scenes' would be far better. Give me car wash girls in 'Daisy Dukes' with lots of soap lather any day.

They bring glitz and glamour to the Clipsal 500 - but there's more than meets the eye when it comes to these grid girls.

Saw this while looking for appropriate images to compliment the story.

Didn't show it first time because it could possibly set the wrong tone for the discussion.

But, since you mentioned it ...

^Yes, you deserved it , indeed.

I was upset at the guys 'labelling' the girls who were having fun in Cambodia, making them seem lower in class than them, when they were just jealous they were not involved.

These 'grid girls' who are showing cleavage at the most, are sexy and should be allowed to flaunt their looks if they choose that profession. Getting fired because of so-called societal norms is absolutely 'PC bullshit' and basically I'm sick of it all..
The stupid labels and men calling women whores who show some cleavage.

<See my ass... hah! I'm all for free speech and choice.
