Cosplay bar hostess charged for viral video inviting men to drink at their bar

A cosplay bar hostess in Saraburi, a province north of Bangkok, was charged for inviting people to drink alcohol at her bar in a Facebook Live video, which violates Thailand’s Alcohol Control Act.

The July 23 video opened with Janjira “Pangpond” Jangsaka, 23, greeting her Facebook followers, before Nantarika “Fahsai” Puekkleng, and Nantida “Alice” Punyamanoch join her on camera. Janjira then tells viewers about the “buy one beer, get one free” promotion at the establishment “Bar-cony Bar & Eatery.”

Yesterday, Saraburi police summoned the three pretty girls after their video received attention on social media. But it wasn’t to ask them to share a beer, it was to have their mugshots snapped.Janjira admitted to talking about the bar’s beer promotion in the video, claiming she didn’t know it was against the law, Daily News reported.

In the end, Janjira was the only one held accountable and she acknowledged charges of “encouraging the consumption of alcohol directly or indirectly” and will go to trial. The charge is punishable by a maximum fine of THB500,000 and/or a one year prison term.

Only last month, four A-list celebrities were summoned to hear the same charge for posting beer selfies on social media that appeared to be part of a sponsored campaign for an alcohol brand, according to Khaosod English.

Weren't they offering a promotion 'buy one, get one free' during the Lent period? This comes just after the government had a campaign for people to give up the drink during Lent.

Now that you've posted it on a Thai-based publicly viewable website, yes, probably.

I was in the Bar-cony Bar in Saraburi a couple of months ago. Up until 7PM all the "pretties" were totally absorbed in taking selfies and then Lining them to what I assumed were various sponsors/punters. On the stroke of 7, the gaffer came around with a rubbish basket and snatched their phones out of their hands and kept them in the basket until closing time. They were then told to get about their business and talk to customers.

    Good man that.

If anyone uses facebook numerous bars in Pattaya and Bangkok are advertising with tarts and their drinks offers. Think this law has been selectively applied, maybe someone not paying their tea money.

You are here: Home / Etiquette / Days When Alcohol Sales are Restricted in Thailand
Days When Alcohol Sales are Restricted in Thailand
JULY 31, 2015 BY ROY CAVANAGH

There are certain days of the year in Thailand when sales of alcohol are restricted nationwide. Since 2009, there have been designated ‘National No Alcohol Days’ to include the Buddhist holidays. Under Thai law, alcohol cannot be sold on these days and vendors caught breaking the ban are liable to a prison sentence of up to six months, a 10,000 Baht fine or both. The National No Alcohol Days in Thailand include the most important Buddhist holidays:

    Makha Bucha (February/March)
    Visakha Bucha (May/June)
    Asahna Bucha (July/early August)
    Wan Khao Phansa (July/early August)
    Awk Phansa (usually in October)
Days When Alcohol Sales are Restricted in Thailand

Yaso graciously agreed to write the message, in English(?), attached to this freezer door.

So sad the government is more interested in girls dancing and or promoting a LEGAL product than they should be worried about is all the VIOLENCE on the roads and students trying to KILL each other. 500 baht fine for trying to whack someone with a machete/sword but give the girls a big fine and maybe jail and they hurt NO ONE.
