Thread: How much a week does it cost you to live here now?

When I came here a few years ago, I could live quite well on my UK State Pension. But NOW inspite of some economies I find I'm digging into my Savings all the time!

At this rate my savings will be all gone in a few years time. THEN what am I gonna do?

I spend about 6 thousand a week but I live in the countryside.

I spend about 35,000 a month, but could manage on less if I didn't have to live somewhere nice.

I'd say that now we're burning through around the 80-90,000 mark.

But that's because I'm completely fiscally irresponsible. And it includes paying down some assets so it's not as bad as it first looks.

I pay very little as I sponge of my rich girlfriend!
15-20'000 although most of it goes on my bar bill.
I owe about 90'000!!

We spend about 33K a month, but that includes about 4K in beer....

A bit like mad-doggie, unless I'm paying for a holiday away or a new fridge or something. Excluding these kind of things, it averages out to between 25k to 30k a month.

Monthly outgoings

Rent 60,000
Other household expenses (eg internet, water, power, ubc) 7,000
Food / supermarket trips 8,000
car payment 18,500
having fun (restaurants, shopping, weekend trips) 30,000
two mobile phones 2000
treats (clothes, books, mags, cosmetics for her indoors) 12,000
bits and bobs that just seem to crop up 20,000 (who knows where it goes - taxis, petrol blah blah blah).
Insurance - covered by employers

So around 160,000k a month. Not too shabby, and it's a good life.

I save the rest ;-)

I'm in the process of buying a house so rental costs will disappear in a couple of months.

I spend about 20,000 a week, and own my own place.
An unduly large amount goes on eating & drinking out, but also service charges & utilities average about 4000 per week.

Anywhere between 3 - 10K a week.
Some days are better than others.
Leave it you to figure which is which.

last week between monday and friday night i spent, 440 baht. my rent is 5500 per month. I like to live veeeeeery cheaply during these nasty riany months and conserve my earnings for the winter time when the motorcycles will roll and the beer will flow freely

I've got enough money to last me the rest of my life....

It costs you to live :

Less money than you have coming in - this is good
All the money you have coming in - OK for now but dodgy
More than the last - Time to relocate (my advice to the OP as well).

Well not totally pointless

It does let some self-satisfied pricks flash their financial phallus and crow "look how big mine is".

If one is careful and a little lucky you can operate a business that makes money.
My biz breaks even low season. High season I clear 100K+. It is volatile though. My first year was better than this year (my 3rd year). I was spending like a drunken sailor for a while. I had to nip that in the bud. I eat breakfast at home now and just buy an expresso out for 35 baht, instead of spending 160 baht every morning. There are many ways to cut expenses. Motor vehicles is where you can cut some major expenses. A 100cc dream only costs 300baht a month to run.
I probably spend close to 10K baht a month to run two corollas, a Land Rover, two step through hondas and my big BMW. But some months I have rental income to offset the outlay.

I just finished my private English lesson. Tonight my pay was three cans of Singha beer and a big pla chon take-away meal. That's livin' large in Tambon Baan Mai.

Quite good I'd say gven that you are in the country.

I spend about 4000 a week but I work all the time and no longer drink and go out much, ie. a boring **** nowadays.

Never expected to see that in a Bendix post.

I have to be frugal now, too, until I can figure out my average earnings. Really busy one or two months, then nada for another. But, yep, definitely have to budget.

It might help if you get a notebook, LD, and write down everything you spend everyday. It sounds petty, but it works -- just to get a clearer picture of how those 20 bahts turn into thousands, it's good to keep track and then eliminate the little unnecessary items. Don't dip into your savings.

Wife and young child to support.

We spend under 20,000 baht a month around a third of my pay.
