I was listening to the BBC reports the morning after and it was stated that a niebor ( who had some type of " how to spot a terrorist " training ) alerted the police of his suspicions. They, the police did review the guy but according to the counter terrorism head I heard on BBC it was determined resources were better utilized elsewhere.

Given that there were FBI agents involved in the investigation, it's not much of a step to determine which US agency the Brits are blaming.

Much ado about nothing. The identities of these terrorists have usually been revealed or leaked to the press one way or another almost immediately after they are sussed out. In no way did this actually impede the investigation. Just a case of wounded pride.
